Elise S. McGee, 71
Elise S. McGee, 71, of Lancaster, PA, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024. Born on September 10, 1952 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Dorothea and James L. Shields, Jr. She graduated from Cecilian Academy in Philadelphia in 1970. She married her husband Hugh P. McGee, with whom she would have celebrated 49 years of marriage this June.
After their marriage, Elise and Hugh moved several times, before settling in Lancaster, PA in 1979 to raise their family. Elise was an active member of St. Leo the Great parish since 1985. Elise spent several years working for the Parking Authority of Lancaster and Homestead Village before beginning her long time position as Executive Assistant at the Horst Group, where she worked until her retirement in 2020.
She treasured traveling with her husband, brother and sister-in-law and especially enjoyed her recent trip to Ireland. She loved trips to Longwood Gardens, shows at the Fulton, following the Phillies, and was an amateur wine connoisseur. Above all, she loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Elise lived her life for others. She always gave selflessly of her time. She constantly checked in on her loved ones, remembering details about their lives and asking about their families. She was the first to offer her time, aid, and advice to her children as they were growing and raising their families.
She is survived by her husband, Hugh McGee, daughter Megan, wife of Brian Herron of Audubon, NJ, son James, husband of Corinne McGee of Audubon, NJ and her beloved grandchildren: Molly, Terence, Brigid, Mairead, John, Mallory and Ada. She is also survived by her brother James L. Shields III and his wife Elizabeth and her sisters Dolores Hunt and Patricia Stark as well as her brother and sisters in law, Maureen Wilson, Patricia Miller and Thomas McGee, many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
