Elizabeth “Betty” V. (Dyckman) Hill, 92

June 05, 2015

Elizabeth “Betty” V. (Dyckman) Hill, 92, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at her residence.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the wife of the late Donald E. Hill, a WWII veteran, who passed away in 1988. They met as he was recovering from malaria in his uncle’s home, who happened to be Betty’s neighbor in Brooklyn. They would speak to each other through their open windows. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Davey) Dyckman.
Betty was a selfless, strong woman who was filled with God-given grace. Of great faith, God was central in her life. A member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, she met countless loving friends there that became her family. A talented seamstress, she sewed and repaired countless shirts and pants for her children as they were growing up. Throughout her illness, she maintained a sunny disposition, and though in discomfort, still put others before herself.
Betty was employed as the Operating Room Manager for the Nassau County Medical Center on Long Island, NY for 15 years until her retirement.
Betty is survived by her children: Patrick N. Hill and his wife Marguerite of Lancaster; Laura M. DuBeau of Fort Myers, FL; Mary G. Hill of Lancaster; and Paul J. VanHyll of Lancaster; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Susan T. Hill of Long Island. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael H. Hill; a daughter, Jan E. Hauser; a daughter-in-law, Deborah C. VanHyll; and 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 with Pastor John S. Light officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Kindly omit flowers. Memorial contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church General Fund at the address above.
