Elizabeth R. “Betty” Medved, 84
November 19, 2023
Elizabeth R. “Betty” Medved, 84, of Lancaster passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023 at her home. Born in Flushing, NY she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Lucy (Francis) Read. She was the loving wife of Albert “Al” Medved with whom she shared over 67 years of marriage. She was proud to be a descendant of William Bradford, who was the first governor of the English Colonies.
She was a graduate of Westfield High School in New Jersey.
Betty with her husband Al owned the Horse Inn Restaurant in Lancaster for over 42 years, and she enjoyed hosting family dinners on Sundays. Along with her husband Al, she was a partner in thoroughbred races in the area.
She loved being a part of her granddaughter’s life and was instrumental in helping raise her. Betty was a volunteer for the Lancaster Public Library and enjoyed playing bridge, and was an avid bowler.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice & Community Care for the exceptional care that was given to Betty throughout her illness.
In addition to her husband Al, she is survived by her children: Barbara Medved and Kenneth Medved husband of Bonnie both of Lancaster. Also surviving is her granddaughter, Dr. Sarah E. Medved, wife of Ryne Druery of Lancaster and sister, Hope Shaffer wife of William of Mechanicsburg, PA.
In keeping with Betty’s wishes there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to the Lancaster Public Library, 151 N. Queen St, Lancaster, PA 17603.
