Elwood W. Gay, 81

March 19, 1943 - November 12, 2024

Elwood W. Gay, formerly of Wilmington, Delaware, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on November 12, 2024. Born on March 19, 1943, he was the son of John and Mildred Lee Gay. He was a student of Commodore Macdonough School and a graduate of Gunning Bedford High School, class of 1965.

Elwood, “Toby”, was a retiree from Chrysler Corp. after 30 years, where he made many friends. He enjoyed spending time and conversing with them at the New Castle Farmers Market over coffee.

He was preceded in passing by his grandparents, Elwood and Imogene Russell, his sister, Mildred (Jean) Gay Bucher, and brother, Rusty Gay. He is survived by his sisters, Carol (Randy) Trader of Hockessin, DE, and Joan Y. Gay of Wilmington, and Shirley Doerflinger of South Carolina; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Services will be at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE 19701, at 1 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, since he proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War Era. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Calvary Fellowship Homes, 502 Elizabeth Dr. Lancaster, PA 17603.

The family would like to thank all the nurses, aides, and staff from Calvary Fellowship Homes and Tandem Living Facility, for all the wonderful care that was provided on his behalf.
