F. Conrad Hamp, 97

December 5, 1926 - January 06, 2024

F. Conrad Hamp, 97, longtime resident of Willow Valley, passed away January 6, 2024. Born on December 5, 1926, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Conrad Hamp Jr. and Margaret W. (Imbach) Hamp.

At the age of 17, Conrad enlisted to serve his country during WWII, in the United States Army Air Corps, where he honorably served until 1945. Shortly after enlisting, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lee (Pearce), with whom he would share over 68 years, until her passing in 2012. He continued his military career by enlisting in the United States Air Force as an U.S. Air Force Aviation Cadet, where he graduated and was commissioned a second lieutenant and awarded his aviator wings (Class 51-C). He served as a pilot in the Air Force for many years and included a tour of duty in Germany. He flew C-47s; B-25s and C-119 flying boxcars. He was honorably discharged from active duty as a Captain in December 1955. His time in the Air Force was something he honored and carried with him into his career as a pilot, an FAA Air Traffic Controller and as regional supervisor for the FAA SE Region out of Atlanta until his retirement. He also was a C-119 flight instructor in the US Air Force Reserve.

Throughout his years, he was an accomplished builder, building 2 sailing boats, and 2 homes, one on Hilton Head Island, and the other in Atlanta GA. He was also a skilled mechanic refurbishing and rebuilding 3 Jaguar XKEs. He was an avid reader, gun collector, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

The family is welcoming guests to a viewing on Wednesday, January 10, 2023, at the Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584, from 5 – 7 PM, with a brief service following. Interment will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Condolences to the Family

June 02, 2024

I am so sorry that Jonathan and I just found out about the passing of Conrad Hamp. We will pray for the repose of his soul, and also for the repose of the soul of his late wife Betty Lee. Jonathan’s Dad, Gerard Hamp Edwards, Sr. was a son of Julia Hamp Edwards, and was cousin to Conrad. Jonathan’s Mom and Dad often invited Aunt Margaret to their house for holidays. Years ago, Aunt Margaret made the boys several paiers of her hand knit slippers. The times that we visited Conrad and Betty Lee, they were extremely gracious hosts. He helped Jonathan with a woodwork project. We offer our condolances to the family of Conrad Hamp, and we will keep everyone in our family prayers.

Conrad, Theresa, Laura, Scott and families,  our hearts are grieving for your loss. Mr. Hamp was a wonderful family man, gentleman and friend. We are honored to have known him. Always enjoyed his company.  My fondest memory is the first time we met both of Conrad’s parents. With Mr. Hamp’s Baltimore accent, when he introduced his wife, Betty Lee, we thought her name was Bailey.  So from that day forward,  we called her Mrs. Hamp….not sure if Bailey was really her name. Rest in peace, sir. You will be missed but long remembered. With much love,  Kathy and Ron
