Francis X. McKenna, 78
Francis X. McKenna Sr, 78, of Lancaster, died Sunday night, February 11, 2007 at his home.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph T. and Mary O’Neill McKenna. Francis was the husband of Ana Maria Pardo McKenna and they were married March 8, 1986. He was a 1946 graduate of Northeast Catholic High School for Boys in Philadelphia.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army, November 22, 1948 served with the 15th AAA AWBN Battalion, 7th Infantry Division in Korea. He returned stateside June 28, 1951 and separated from the military July 31, 1951. He worked for Sears, John B. Kelly, Inc., and G&WH Corson Co. When retiring in 1993, Mr. McKenna was Sales Manager with the Warner Company. His memberships include Mason Contractors Association of Philadelphia (MCACP) and Overlook Foundation Board of Directors, Lancaster.
Mr. McKenna was the original founder of CYO District 21 Soccer League in the Philadelphia Archdiocese. He began his coaching career at Epiphany of Our Lord Parish in Plymouth Meeting. Currently the District 21 championship soccer trophy is presented in his honor. He founded the Bishop Kenrick High School soccer program and coached there from 1972-1981 when his son, Michael took over and still currently holds this position.
Surviving besides his wife are seven children: MaryBeth Drewniany, Jacksonville, FL; Susan Maureen Kelly, Lansdale, PA; Francis X. McKenna Jr., Rochester, NY; Michael Eugene McKenna, Lansdale, PA; Margaret Ann Gates, Worcester, PA; Melanie McKenna Jones, Lower Gwynedd, PA; Aimee McKenna Holtz, Collegeville, PA; seventeen grandchildren; a brother, Gerald P McKenna, Hatboro, PA; and a sister Mary Virginia Magee, Jenkintown, PA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph E. McKenna, and a granddaughter, Maura Elizabeth Gates..
A memorial service will be held at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel , 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Friends may pay their respects to the family from 12:00- 1:00 p.m. Contributions may be made in Francis’ memory to Holy Family Home, Little Sisters of the Poor, 5300 Chester Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19143 or Northeast Catholic High School for Boys, 1842 E.
