Franklyn W. “Frank” Gross, 89

Franklyn W. “Frank” Gross, 89, of Lancaster passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, at LGH. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Daniel R. and Rose M. (Ciccone) Gross. He was the loving husband of Helen (Hilbert) Gross with whom he shared over 64 years of marriage.

He was a 1952 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and a 1957 graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point.

Frank proudly served in the US Army for 20 years including a one-year assignment in the Vietnam War for which he received a Bronze Star Medal. Frank worked for the US Postal Service in Lancaster from where he retired.

He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he coached track. Frank was a member of the Italian Cultural Society and the Lancaster Liederkranz. Above all Frank was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his family. He enjoyed watching his grandkids at their sporting events.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Dolores Henry wife of Steven of Conestoga, PA Raymond Gross husband of Lisa of Lancaster, PA Kathryn Glessner wife of Joseph of Middletown, PA and Julie Gross of Berwick, PA. Also surviving are ten grandchildren: Erin, Danielle, Shannon (Matthew), Matthew, Tyler (Miranda), Margaret (Carter), Bridget, Brooke, Anthony, Chase; three great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Hudson, and Jace; sister, Rosalie Gross and daughter in law, Viriginia Gross both of Lancaster. Frank was preceded in death by his son, Robert Gross.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Friday, August 2, 2024, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s New Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends will be received from 6-8PM on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St, Millersville, PA 17551 with a Prayer Service at 7:30PM. A second viewing will be held at the church from 10-11AM on Friday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank’s memory may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 558 W. Walnut St, Lancaster, PA 17603 or to St. Leo the Great Catholic Church at the above address.

A truly special person. We worked with Frank at the post office and will never forget his fun loving humor and zest for life. A hard worker who always spoke highly of others and offered his help whenever needed. He made our time at work enjoyable. Our sincere condolences to his family.
