Fred P. McCaffrey, 81

October 27, 2015

Fred P. McCaffrey, 81, of Lancaster, PA passed away in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, October 27, 2015. He was the husband of the late Theresa (Fitzsimmons) McCaffrey who passed away in 2005.
Born in Newark, NJ he was the son of the late John and Winifred Mary (Armstrong) McCaffrey. Fred worked in the marketing department of RCA for 40 years until his retirement. He proudly served in the US Army. Fred was a faithful member of St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed cooking, reading, politics, sports and golfing on Mondays at local courses with a group of friends. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. A perfect day would include golf in the morning, attending one of the grand kids’ events later in the day, and followed by a family gathering with enough food to feed an army. He was a devoted husband to his late wife whom he met on a blind date on October 24, 1958 and married on the same date one year later.
He is survived by his children Robert McCaffrey and wife Shelby of Seattle, WA, William McCaffrey and wife Ellen of Landisville, PA, Bernard McCaffrey of Maytown, PA, Maureen wife of Eckhard Schulz of Columbia, PA, Fred P. McCaffrey, Jr. and wife Margaret of Seattle, WA and Dennis McCaffrey of Bloomsburg, PA; ten grandchildren Megan, Kaitlin, Nicole, Stephanie wife of Brett Moore, Jack, Sara, Jacob, Anna, Lauren and Lucy; sister-in-laws Sister Miriam Bernard, Sister Maria Brigita and Mary Fitzsimmons all of NJ and brother-in-laws Ricky Neuman of FL, James and Bernard Fitzsimmons both of NJ. Fred was preceded in death by a brother Eugene McCaffrey, a sister Carol Neuman and sister-in-law Florence McCaffrey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 11AM from St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave. Lancaster, PA 17601 with Fr. Peter Hahn as celebrant. Interment will be held in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman, PA. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the Funeral Mass at Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601 or to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604.

Fred and I were aquainted by the miracle of the internet but sadly were unable to meet but for some telephone conversations.
I recall I shared his zest for golf and one day hoped to play a game together and to share our family’s history of Ireland, USA and Australia.
My hearfelt sympathy goes out to Fred’s family.

Please accept our condolences on the passing of your father/grandfather.  Fred was a great friend and Joe enjoyed many great games of golf with him.  We have so many fond memories of time spent with your folks.  Our cruise to the Caribbean along with your mother’s first airplane flight, the great cruise to Bermuda on the Love Boat, our many trips to Myrtle Beach and all the great lunches and dinners we shared.  Fred will be deeply missed by us as your mother/grandmother has been.
May the fond memories of time spent with your father/grandfather bring you comfort during this hard time in your lives.  Stay strong and know that you are remembered in out thoughts and prayers.
With much love
Joe & Wanda Kyle
