Hi,
I never had the pleasure of playing for Coach Reed, but he always had my respect. I was too old to play on his teams. I feel your loss.

Dear Uncle Fred,
You’ve always encouraged me to do more than I could have ever imagined; urging me think of the bigger picture, and always from a place of love. The first time I felt your inspiration was after I returned home from China. Aunt Dele and Suzanne were both basically saying, “Lil Omarr, you need to keep your behind in the USA.” To my shock, you shouted playfully, “…leave the boy alone.” Then looked over your shoulder with a little grin and said, “Man, don’t listen to those two. Keep on moving and do what you do!” I couldn’t help but smile…GLOWINGLY! You never told me slow down, stop, or anything of that nature, only to keep moving forward and make my own path. Your words of wisdom have been like a guiding light to finding my way towards my future. Uncle Fred, I am finding a gorgeous future indeed.
There are no words to express my gratitude towards your guidance, wisdom, insight, and love. I will forever be grateful to you. I would not be the man I am today if it wasn’t for you Moon Doggie! Rest in Peace and know…. I love you always and forever. – Your Nephew

My condolences to the Reed family.
Mr. Reed was my football and basketball coach at Edward Hand Junior High in 1963. He was the male role model I needed at that time in my life. His demeanor, his actions and his accomplishments were all-inspiring and formed the foundation of the arc of my life. I was fortunate enough to get to reconnect with Mr. Reed and work with him in Harrisburg. His will be greatly missed; but he continues on in all of the many lives he touched and influenced

Dearest Reed Family,
I was one of Fred’s friends from Central Penn Fitness Center in Harrisburg. But sometimes, God shows us what a small world it is because not only did we go to the gym together. I also worked in DC for 10 years and if that didn’t give us special reasons to talk, my cousin’s son was Troy Keys, who played basketball with Fred Jr. at Susquehanna Twp. HS.

Sending prayers n condolences to the Reed family/relatives n friends from Earl, Mary, Bonnie,Aaron, Papa Boots regarding the passing of Fred Reed. MR Reed was a historical figure in my life because in 1961, he was a 7th grade history teacher at Hand Jr High, who happened to be the first black teacher hired by SDOL He was my first only black teacher I every had until I graduated from McCaskey in 1967. Mr Reed was not only a good teacher, coach, mentor to the black students at Hand, n my good friend that took interest in my life. Mr Reed was a good man who will be missed by so many people but more important he made U feel very proud of your race always encouraging U to pursue your educational dreams. RIP Mr Reed
