George M. Clark, 87

December 20, 2024

George M. Clark, age 87, of Lancaster, left this world to his eternal home, prepared for him by the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6) on Friday, December 20,2024. Born in Staten Island, NY., he was the son of the late Samuel M. and Dorothy F. (Schneider) Clark. After high school, he attended North Eastern Bible Institute where he met his beloved wife, Doris R. Lilley, whom he married in 1959 at Calvary Church.

Upon graduating from North Eastern Bible Institute, George served his country in the United States Army as an illustrator in the 1st Psychological Warfare Battalion in Fort Bragg, NC for the American military newspaper Stars and Stripes. Upon discharge he received the Army Commendation Metal.

After the Army, the Clarks moved back to Lancaster County, where they raised their family of two children and George began his career at RCA and served in his local church as a Sunday School teacher and a church Elder. He worked for 34 years at RCA, which then became Burle, and retired in 1999. He then started a second career as an independent art teacher. He taught watercolor and abstract art in South Carolina and Calvary Homes.

A very successful prize-winning artist, George won the Gracey Award at the International Society of Experimental Artists, the Keystone Metal, the Penn Society 25th Anniversary, Silvan Award, the Johnathan Newman Medal, and was a member of the Salmungindi Club NYC. He became a Fellow in 2010 of the International Society of Experimental Artist. He won the Rottler Award twice. He was a signature member of the 505 Watercolor Society winning numerous awards on the east coast as well as Texas and Oklahoma winning a Bronze Metal and 4 Blue Ribbons at the Landis Woods Outdoor Fine Art Show.

In addition to his loving wife, Doris, George is survived by his children: Anita Benedict (wife of Gregg) of Pequea and Steven D. Clark (partner of Jeff Downs) and one brother Robert Clark.

So sorry for your loss. I took a watercolor class with George at LCAA and bought one of his paintings (PInk Hibiscus) which I have cherished for years. RIP
