George Thomas “Tom” Mitchell, 79

March 06, 2025

George Thomas “Tom” Mitchell, of Lancaster, passed away on March 6, 2025, at the age of 79. A Lancaster Native at birth, Tom, was the son of the late George R. and Thelma (Kreider) Mitchell.

Tom was a devoted lifetime member of the Millersville Fire Dept. Station 6-5 (current Blue Rock Fire Rescue) and the Refton Fire Company Station 59, exemplifying a spirit of camaraderie and service that truly defined him. He also proudly served in the Army Reserves, reflecting his commitment to his country and community.

Tom found joy in the simple pleasures, whether it was watching NASCAR races or spending peaceful afternoons on the patio, listening to the birds and the soothing sounds of a water fountain. His love for fire parades was greatly profound and he would proudly cheer on the community he cared so deeply about.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Powell Mitchell of Lancaster; his twin sons: Michael Todd Mitchell (husband of Kendra) of Summerville, South Carolina and John Mark Mitchell (husband of Joy) of Conestoga; his grandsons: Gabriel, Riley and Kasey Mitchell; his brother, Steven Mitchell (husband of Gail) of New Providence as well as his 2 beloved Yorkies, Kelsey and Fred.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at New Providence Church of God, 269 Cinder Rd, New Providence, PA 17560 from 10AM to 11AM with a memorial service to begin at 11AM.
