Gerard H. Connolly, 89
Gerard H. Connolly, 89, of Lititz, formerly of Wellesley, MA, and Pocasset MA, died peacefully on June 14, 2008 at Brethren Village of renal disease. He was the husband of Dorothy (Leist) Connolly with whom he observed their 61st wedding anniversary in May.
Gerry was born in Newton, MA on August 6, 1918, the son of the late Edward B. and Mildred M. Connolly. He served in the US Army as a second lieutenant in the medical corps from 1941 to 1945. Following his military service, he attended Suffolk University.
His career of 40 years was spent in the food sales industry. He retired in 1985 from Revere Sugar as Sales Manager. After retirement, he volunteered at the Heritage Plantation, Sandwich, MA. He was an avid card player, committed golfer, and gifted Mr. Fix-it.
He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Susan C. Eckert, wife of Gerald C., Lancaster, and Peter B. Connolly, husband of Colleen L., Albany, NY, and four grandchildren, Andrew C. Eckert, West Chester, PA, Timothy E. Eckert, Lancaster, Courtney C. Weisberg, wife of Jack, Albany, and Ashley L. Connolly, Albany. He is preceded in death by his twin brother, John E., and his brother, Edward.
A memorial service will be held for Gerry on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 10 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gerry’s name may be made to the United Way of Lancaster County, 630 Janet Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601, or a charity of one’s choice.
