September 20, 2015
Gundela B. “Gundi” Maris, 82, of Lancaster, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 20, 2015, at Lancashire Hall. Born in Wundelheim, Germany to the late Oscar and Gertrude (Michael) Hoben. Gundi immigrated to New York in May of 1956 and was married to the late John M. Maris, Sr. Gundi now joins her husband on Heaven’s shores.
Gundi was a homemaker, who dedicated herself to the care of her children and grandchildren. Gundi was a devout Christian and longtime attender of Calvary Church, holding Bible studies through church and in her home. She enjoyed life and found great satisfaction in entertaining guests in her home. Maintaining proper nutrition was very important to her and she loved going on hikes, taking trips to the ocean and Longwood Gardens with her family. Gundi also enjoyed growing flowers in her own garden.
Gundi is survived by 3 children: a son, Kenneth Gayer, husband of Nancy and their children, Alexander and Josephine, of Chatham, NJ; a daughter, Mary-Ann Good, wife of John, and their children, Maxine, Brian, Elizabeth and Jason, of Lancaster; and a daughter, Virginia Lloret, of Dallas, TX. Gundi is also survived by 4 siblings, who reside in Germany.
Funeral services for Gundi will be held at 11AM, Friday, September 25, 2015 at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601. Family and friends will be received for visitation from 10-11AM at the church. Interment will follow at Witness Park, Lititz. Contributions may be made in Gundi’s name to Calvary Church’s Mission Fund at the above address.
Gundi lived her life according to her favorite Scripture passage, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33).

Dearest cousins Virginia, Maryanne, and Ken. Our deep condolences on the death of your mother. The heaviness of her passing is consoled by the faith and trust she put into Jesus, the Lord. What consolations God gives through His Word to comfort us. May the grief of losing her ultimately come to be replaced by the loving memories of the handmaiden of the Lord that she was.
We grieve with you–she was my aunt–part of the same family and by the Lord’s mercy and compassion to be reunited in His Kingdom forever.
Loving you,
Jane and Norbert

What a woman! Gundi loved Christ, her children and grandchildren and husband John. She also loved and was a student of the Word of God. Her life story was unlike most but similiar to many. She blessed my life every time we met together at a restaurant for breakfast. She was an astute student of the Bible. I guess because it met every one of her needs. She was bold and thankful. And now she is enjoying the home God promises and prepares for all of us who love Him.
