Harold “Butch” S. Shaak Jr., 71
October 29, 2017
Harold “Butch” S. Shaak Jr., 71, passed away surrounded by his adoring family on October 29, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was a loving husband and father to Joan and Elizabeth. He was the son of the late Harold S. Shaak Sr. and Elva Shaak.
He was a proud member of the United States Navy, serving the country for many years and excelling academically in Naval Air and Radar technical training. His specialization gave him the honor of becoming a member of the Naval Color Guard.
Butch was a strong, caring renaissance man, whose talents included a variety of technical and creative works in wood, metal, video and stage work, design consulting, and cooking gourmet meals for friends and family. His quiet selflessness, dignity, and service will be missed as he holds a special place in the hearts of many.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Shaak, daughter, Elizabeth A. Shaak, and Jake Marshall, who was like the son he never had. He will also be greatly missed by his sister-in-law, Gail McFadden, nephew Tom McFadden, and niece, Katie Feagans, his beloved corgis, Ollie and Violet, and many other dear family members and friends.
Visitation will be held at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home at 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 on Thursday, November 2, 2017 beginning at 8:00am, with services at 9:00am. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Humane League of Lancaster County at 2195 Lincoln Hwy E, Lancaster, PA 17602 or www.humanepa.org

I am so very sad to have just learned of Hal’s passing. Having worked with Hal, along with brother Bill, for many years, he was so talented, kind & so easy to be around. My heart goes out to Joan & Elizabeth

We were sad when we read about Harold. I worked with him at Xerox and still remember him as a kind and helpful person. He helped me home projects and made a marble machine for my kids, which my grandkids still play with today. Our prayers are with you and your family. Don and Linda Clair

Hal was one of the sweetest people I ever met. I will never forget his world-class sound and tech work for all of the SFF retreats. He was kind, capable, wickedly smart and funny. The world is a poorer place without him.

I and a lot of others would not be where we are today without the kindness, generosity, and support of Hal. All of us whose lives he touched feel a deep sense of loss, and our hearts go out to Joan, Elizabeth, and the rest of his family.
