Harold E. Herr, 91
June 12, 1932 - February 16, 2024
Harold E. Herr, 91, formerly of Lancaster, PA, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. He was born and raised in Lancaster, the son of the late Milton Reeder Herr and Edna May (Styer) Herr.
A 1950 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, Harold served in the US Army during the Korean War as a radio mechanic with Company C, 723RD Tank Battalion at Camp Irwin, CA, obtaining the rank of Tech Sergeant.
He completed an electrician apprenticeship with Harry E. Gochnauer, and then worked as an electrical engineer for RCA. Harold attended night school completing 4 years at Stevens Trade in 1959, and then earned an associate degree in electronics from Penn State, York Campus in 1972.
Growing up Harold worshipped and sang in the choir at St. James Episcopal Church in Lancaster, and then was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ in Lancaster.
He was a 32 degree Mason with Masonic Lodge No 43 F.&A.M. Lancaster.
Harold was a wonderful father to his kids. He was a humble man who deeply cared for others. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, dancing, playing the piano, and singing. He loved dogs and feeding the birds. He was the life of the party, known as “crazy Harold.”
Harold’s family includes his daughter Cheryl Kercher, wife of Donald, of Gap, son Robert Herr of New Holland, three grandchildren, Damon Kercher, husband of Melissa, Stephanie Burkhart, wife of Brian, and Zachary Herr, husband of Brittany, five great-grandchildren, Roman Kercher, Aaliah Burkhart, Caleb Burkhart, Teagan Burkhart, and Aria Herr, and soon to be born great-grandson Blake Herr.
Preceding Harold in death were his brothers Donald S. Herr and Richard E. Herr, and his first wife, Audrey Mehaffey Vinelli who passed December 27, 2020.

Cheryl and Robert, our families were friends, many years ago, in Lancaster City. Your Parents were young and we were kids. We attended Lafayette elementary. Positively a reason for celebration with respect to Your Father’s time on this earth. My Condolences go out to both of You.
