Harriet Louise Benchoff, 105
August 23, 2024
Harriet Louise (Hattie) Benchoff, a resident of Homestead Village, formerly of Fairfield, PA, went to be with her Lord on August 23, 2024, in her 105th year. Born in Big Pool, MD, the daughter of the late Clarence and Anna Frush, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Floyd Warren Benchoff and a daughter, Joyce Louise Coder.
After raising her three children, she worked as a housekeeper, nanny, and pet sitter. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, but her real love was gardening, growing vegetables and flowers, which she gave away to family and friends every summer. When she could no longer enjoy these pastimes, she loved to read and watch the small birds which came to her balcony feeder.
She is survived by her son Dennis and wife Barbara of Lancaster, PA, son Brian of Bastrop, Texas, eight grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 12 at 10:30 am at the Wesley Chapel, 654 Old Waynesboro Road, Fairfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Harriet’s memory to the Lancaster Farmland Trust, 125 Lancaster Avenue, Strasburg, PA 17579.

Aunt Harriet was my dads, Fred Frush, favorite fishing buddy sister. I will always remember and cherish the time I spent with Brian and the family in the summer. The club house we built by the creek and playing the golf course Uncle Floyd built at the house. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love always, Richard(Dick) Frush

Dennis,
Mom and I were just talking about Aunt Harriett last week. She was such wonderful woman. We couldn’t believe she was in her 105th year. Remember her visiting Nan Betty, her sister and all the great conversations we would have. We are so sorry for your loss of your wonderful mother. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Harriett was an inspiration for everone at Homestead. She tended the flowers and bluebirds with steadfast devotion. When I met her she was 90 still going strong. Her smile lit up the room. We miss her.

I met my dear friend, Harriet at Homestead Village. She beautified her environment with her flower and vegetable gardening, and with her constant smile and daily-living faith. Having Harriet for a friend was a very special gift in my life. I honor her memory with deepest sympathy to her family, and sincere gratitude for the privilege of sharing a part of her extraordinary life!
