Harry Weisman, 93

Harry Weisman, 93, of Lititz, passed away, Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Brethren Village. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Max and Katie (Rubin) Weisman and husband of the late Anita “Pat” (Myers) who died January 5, 2010.
Harry attended McCaskey High School, but left before graduation to join the Army and fought during World War II as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army Infantry, with the 13th Airborne Division and was honorably discharged in 1946.
In 1955, with the help of a cousin in the same business, he founded “The Upstate Collection Service and began his career as a “professional bill collector.” In 2002, Harry had the distinct honor of both retiring and returning to and graduating from McCaskey High School.
A congregant of Temple Beth El, Harry was a member of the International Collectors Association, the Pennsylvania Collectors Association, where he served as a board member, and the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of B’nai B’rith International, Lancaster Lodge #0228, and was also a member of the Sertoma Club since 1961 and a past Gold Honor President of the Wheatland Sertoma Club of Lancaster. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0603, the Quarryville Jewish War Vets, and served as the first president of the Jewish War Vets of Lancaster.
Harry received citations for his outstanding record of service to his profession and his community from both the Pennsylvania Senate and House of Representatives.
Harry is survived by his son, Craig A. Weisman, husband of Pamela, of Lancaster; three grandchildren: Erica Weisman, of Lancaster, Kara Baldwin, wife of Thomas, of Lancaster, and Jessica Grimacy, wife of Barrett, of East Petersburg; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three brothers: Nathan and Herman Weisman, both of Florida, and Samuel Weisman, of Lebanon. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Robin S. Weisman and two brothers: Irvin and Louis Weisman.
Funeral Services will be held at 11AM, Friday, April 20, 2018, at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home from 10AM to 11AM. Interment with military honors will follow at Temple Beth El Cemetery, Lititz.

Harry was an outstanding man, honorable and kind. I delivered his mail at upstate 20 south Duke and am very fond of Harry. james carnes.

Sorry to hear that Harry passed away. I worked for him back in the early 1990’s. When he graduated from high school and retired all at the same time, I made him a red, white and blue afghan. I made his wife an angel pin. The next time I caught up with him he was working at the Clipper Stadium. Rest in Peace , Harry .
