Harvey C. Douie, Jr.
The Reverend Mr. Harvey C. Douie, Jr. of Brethren Village, Lancaster, PA; formerly of Elizabethtown, PA; died peacefully after a long illness on September 26, 2006 at Brethren Village.
Mr. Douie was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 2, 1929. He graduated from Roxborough High School, the University of Pennsylvania, and Princeton Theological Seminary with a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1953. He received his Master of Theology Degree from the seminary in 1959
Mr. Douie served as pastor to the First Presbyterian of Rumson, NJ; The United Presbyterian Church of Shippensburg, PA; and the Parsippany Presbyterian Church of Parsippany, NJ. After his retirement in 1995, Mr. Douie was called as part-time stated supply at the Latta Memorial Presbyterian Church in Christiana, PA where he served until 2002.
Mr. Douie was known for his love of children and for his fascination with all railroads, both miniature and full-scale.
He is survived by his wife, the former Sara Louise Woll of Philadelphia, PA. He is also survived by his daughter, Deborah Douie Merritt; his son and daughter-in-law, David W. and Bonnie K. Douie; his grandson, Alexander F. Douie; and his sister, Edith H. Douie.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the Brethren Village Chapel at 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster (Manheim Township), PA on Saturday, October 7, 2006, at 11 a.m. with visiting hours at 10 a.m.
