Homer G. Hess, 90

May 01, 2024

Homer G. Hess, known for his devoted dedication to his family, artistic talent, and unwavering commitment to farming, passed away on May 1, 2024. Born in Lancaster, Homer was the son of the late Norman and Anna (Groff) Hess.

A graduate of Manheim Township High School, Homer’s life truly began when he met the love of his life, Dorothy M. Shultz, at a tent revival meeting. Their bond was unbreakable, leading to a beautiful marriage that lasted 69 years. Homer and Dorothy started a dairy farm in the late 1950’s that continues in the family to this day. Later in life, when Homer stepped back from working with the cows, he really demonstrated having a green thumb by his bountiful garden and beautiful house plants and flowers.

Though farming was his profession, Homer’s artistic flair shone brightly through his intricate drawings, which adorned cards sent to family and friends, showcasing the love he had for others. His kind and selfless nature was a cornerstone of his being, placing the needs of those around him above his own. He was a devout member of the Bossler Mennonite Church. Homer leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication with his beloved wife Dorothy M. (Shultz) Hess; children Cindy Hess, Sharon Hostetter (wife of Elvin), Ed Hess (husband of Julie) and Eugene Hess (husband of Susan); seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one son in-law William Nicholas; and one sister Miriam G. Hess.

In addition to his parents, Homer is preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Nicholas and brother Titus Hess.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Bossler Mennonite Church, 2021 Bossler Rd, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 at 11am with a greeting time from 10am to 11am. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Samaritan Fund at Brethren Village, bv.org, or by sending a check to 3001 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 attention Development Department.
