James A. Groff, 69

November 22, 2024

James A. Groff, 69, of Strasburg, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at the Bob Fryer & Family Inpatient Center for Hospice & Community Care. Born and raised in Lancaster County, Jim was the son of the late Aaron R. & Eva S. Groff. He was the loving husband of Kathy Mahoney Groff for 40 years.

Born into a family of dairy farmers, Jim spent his childhood on the Pequea Silver Mine Farm and attended Lancaster Mennonite School. A lifelong follower of Christ, Jim was baptized at Rawlinsville Mennonite Church and faithfully attended Calvary Church.

Jim found joy in many things including puzzling, rooting for the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Baltimore Orioles, playing and coaching softball, and taking trips down to Lewes beach. Most of all, Jim enjoyed spending time with his wife, family, and friends. At the time of his passing, Jim was enjoying his retirement from Coast Distribution after spending 44 years with the company.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his siblings, John Groff, David Groff, Miriam (Claude) Miller, Lydia (late Roy) Beck, Lois (Les) Hershey, in-laws, Roberta (late Jerry) Mahoney, Deborah (Tim) Wimer, Denise (Randy) Lantz, Lisa (late Rod) Lantz, Dennis (Karen) Mahoney, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jim’s celebration of life service at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, PA 17601, on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 10 AM, followed by food and fellowship. Burial will be private at Mellinger’s Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice and Community Care.
