James E. Roop, Jr., 64

James E. Roop, Jr., 64, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born in Lancaster to the late James Everett and Kathryn E. Bleacher Roop and was husband to Vickie Yake Roop for 44 years on April 14th.
Jim graduated from Lampeter-Strasburg High School and Willow Street Vo-Tech in 1971. He worked at Armstrong, then Halprin/MES, next drove tractor trailer for UPS and last helped his son James start Roop’s Lawn Service.
Following his father as a firefighter from age 14, Jim belonged to Lafayette, Bausman/Lancaster Twp. and New Danville Fire Companies, holding various officer positions including Fire Chief. Jim loved deer hunting with his best friend Joe, camping with his family and spending time with his grandchildren which were his world.
Surviving Jim in addition to his wife Vickie, are their children, James E. Roop. III, Willow Street, Shawn Roop, husband of Christina, Lancaster and Jennifer Miller, wife of Kenton, Lancaster; 5 grandchildren, James Michael Roop, Morgan Roop, Landon Miller, Jaxon Roop and Kennedy Miller; and his brother Michael Roop, husband of Donna, Lancaster.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, Sept. 9th at LCBC, 313 W. Liberty St., Lancaster, PA 17603. Emergency Apparatus is welcome. Jim’s family will receive friends at 10:00 AM. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the James E Roop Jr Memorial Fund, PNC Bank 101 Wabank Road, Millersville, PA 17551.

Jim will be sadly missed by his extended firefighting family and friends. We remember his wit, sense of humor and most importantly his commitment to his family and community. To his family we pass along our deepest sympathy!
