James T. “Here’s the Deal” Hudson Sr., 85
June 20, 2022
Here’s the deal… Jim decided to leave his earthly body on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 85 years of age. Born in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late Amos C. and Rose A. Hudson, and the beloved husband to Mary Ellen Hudson for over 49 years.
Jim graduated from Salesianum High School in 1954. In 1955 he enlisted in the US Army, serving his country for 3 years before being honorably discharged. He worked at Dupont for 14 years, Chapman Ford, and eventually Keller Brothers in Lititz where he retired from only 3 years ago. He was extremely hardworking and dedicated to anything he put his mind to. He enjoyed going on cruises with Mary Ellen, and even won “Hairiest Chest Award” 2 years in a row. Jim also enjoyed going to the beach with his family, either to Ocean City, MD or Wildwood, NJ. He will always be remembered for his catchy phrases, “Here’s the deal” and “Not bad.”
In addition to his loving wife Mary Ellen, Jim is survived by 2 children and their companions: Jennifer L. Kettering and James T. Hudson, Jr., a sister in DE, 5 grandchildren: Sadie, Evan, Lee, Hudson C., and Cora; and his grand-dog Artie. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lynn R. Hudson.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Jim will be laid to rest at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Brett Gulden for his assistance and help making Jim comfortable over the last 2 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Jim’s name to American Heart Association, www.heart.org, American Lung Association, www.lung.org, or American Kidney Fund, www.kidneyfund.org.

As my Dad’s caregiver for the last year and a half of his life, I had the privilege of having some really great conversations with not only my Dad, but my Mom as well. We would take him to every Dr. appointment, test and surgery. His specialists all told me Mom and I kept Dad alive a lot long than he should have been. He told me that he really appreciated the care Mom and I gave him. Towards the end, Dad reached out to everyone who was important to him because he had a special message just for them. I feel lucky that we all took the time to spend time with Dad, I know he was great ful for everyone who came to see him. Jim aka Rock aka Paw-Paw and Pop-Pop we love you and miss 💔. “Jim, I’ll be seeing you soon” ME

My deepest sympathies are extended to The Hudson Family on the passing of my good friend and fellow classmate James. As a member of Salesianum Class of 1954, I have fond memories from back then as well as later years of Jim calling about all things Family and Salesianum. May The Lord Grant him Eternal Rest as we await our Heavenly Reunion. 🙂 Sincerely, Frank Joyce

Mourning the passing of a magnificent cousin who led an exemplary life as a family man and was also part of my childhood growing up in the Lewandowski family of Wilmington, Delaware. It feels as though a legendary figure has gone before us leaving much to recall with great admiration. Deepest condolences to Mary, her children, and granchildren of the great Hudson family, and to cousin Mickey Hudson.

We all knew the catch phrases and years from now we’ll still be quoting them “Not Bad” “Here’s the deal” “President of your Fan Club” “Let me introduce you to my dad” and soo many stories, photos, polaroids, and memories. Always positive. A one of a kind humble showman that would have given Rodney Dangerfield a run for the money. We all were blessed to have known and worked alongside Jim. My Condolences.

As his son, I can say he was one of a kind. My wife of 9 years, Ferlicia and I were reminiscing with his sister, our Aunt Mickey, about some of the more goofy, humorous times we all shared with him over the decades we knew him. From her we learned more about his teenage years, army life, and early adulthood, adding depth to some of his outrageous, yet true stories. I love you, Dad. RIP ❤

“Here’s the deal”. I had the honor of knowing and working with Jim for about 15 years and I can say that stories of Jim will live on forever. Your family was blessed to have him and everyone that can tell a story about time with him was blessed as well. No one will ever describe Jim as “not bad”, he was the best. I am very sorry for your loss.
