Janet Anderson Hobday, 91
Janet Anderson Hobday, 91, passed away on Friday evening February 10, 2012 surrounded by her family, at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy Center. Born on March 7, 1920 in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Mabel (Waters) Anderson.
She was the wife of Flight Officer Richard A. Hobday, married at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Beaufort, South Carolina in 1944 by the Reverend Felix Hacket.
Janet was a member of the first graduating class of J.P. McCaskey High School in 1938. After graduation, she was employed by RCA as an executive secretary.
While her husband was stationed in Beaufort, Janet worked for the 101st Naval Patrol Bombers Squadron in the administrative division of the Link Trainer Department. She and her husband relocated to Hendricks Army Airfield in south Florida until the cessation of World War II, after which they returned to Lancaster to raise their family.
Janet lovingly created many pieces of intricate counted cross stitch for which she was well known in the community. Every morning Janet enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels in her backyard. She was a fastidious homemaker who loved being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed spending summer vacations at the New Jersey shore. Janet was the last surviving member of her card club group which originated in 1959. She rarely missed an opportunity to catch her favorite baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies, in action on TV.
In addition to her husband, Richard “Dick” Hobday, Janet is survived by six children: Diane Cannizzaro of Milford, CT; Austin Richard “Rick” of Tunkhannock, PA; Karen Bennett, married to Thomas A. Bennett of Lancaster, PA; Stephen John of Lancaster, PA; Mary Lynn DiPaolo, married to Michael A. DiPaolo of Stroudsburg, PA; and Kevin Robert, married to Jill Marple Hobday of Odessa, FL; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Robert Anderson of Allentown, PA and Kenneth William Anderson of Lancaster, PA; and two sisters, Dorothy Porter of Lancaster, PA and Mildred Yeager of Columbia, PA.
All are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601 with Rev. Peter Hahn as Celebrant. Friends will be received from 10-11AM at church. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Karen and family-
There’s nothing more difficult than when your mother passes….but take comfort in the fact that all the memories she created with you during your lifetime will stay with you always!
How comforting for her to have had so many of you by her side when she and God decided it was time for her to join Him. Know that she will watch over you always and someday(a long, long time from now), you’ll all be together again.
Know that lots of love and prayers come your way from Val and Jeff Strife in Mohawk, NY.
Marylynn and Mike and family,
Sorry to hear that your mother passed away. My thoughts are with you and the family at this time.

To All the Hobdays- thoughts and prayers are with you guys- Just seeing the photo of your Mom- with that smile and raised eyebrow made me laugh and smile–she was so special- can still picture her out in your backyard painting an odd chair or table—probably changing the color for the third time—but really just doing it to be out in the yard in the sun!!! Savor the memories–
