Jean Mooney Long, 95
July 10, 2018
Jean Mooney Long, 95, formerly of Lancaster, Columbia and East Donegal Twp., passed away peacefully at Ephrata Manor on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. She was born in Lancaster to the late Baynton and Elizabeth Misal Mooney.
Jean’s first husband, Earl F. Flick, was lost in action during WWII as a B-24 tail gunner in 1944. She then married Army veteran William H. Long when he returned from the war and spent almost 61 wonderful years together before his passing in 2007.
A 1941 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, Jean was the payroll clerk at the former US Lock & Hardware in Columbia. Not one to sit around in retirement, she made sandwiches part time at the Darrenkamp’s Market in Mount Joy.
She was a devoted member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Columbia, where she sang in the choir and served as treasurer for 30 years. Jean loved singing and participating in events with Sweet Adelines International.
Jean was a very caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She loved to laugh, have fun and was always ready to go on trips and jaunts at the drop of a hat.
Jean’s surviving family includes her sons, William H. Long, II, husband of Cheryl (Moyle) of Lebanon and James R. Long, husband of Mary (Markel) of Mountville; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Jean’s daughter, Erla Jean Flick Long Houck and Erla’s husband Barrie E. Houck, as well as Jean’s 5 brothers and 7 sisters, preceded her in death.
A visitation will take place from 10-11 AM, followed by a celebration of Jean’s life at 11 AM with Pastor Don Wert officiating, on Saturday, July 28th at Grace E.C. Church. Private interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Wrightsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace E.C. Church, 36 N. 8th St., Columbia, PA 17512.

Aunt Jean was a dear lady who always loved to have a good time. If there was a party – she was there:) Once when Dan and I visited her in the home she asked about heaven and if there is going to be a party there. Dan said yes and she said that will be nice. She loved to play cards and have her family around her. She loved the 4th of July celebrations at my parents and would always come dressed iin her red, white and blue.
I will always remember her happy, kind spirit!
She will be greatly missed

It was my pleasure to be a caregiver and friend to Jean during her last years, at Ephrata Manor. Everyone loved this quick witted, funny lady, and she always made my day, when I would enter her room to provide care for her on 3rd shift. Never one to sleep much, she was always wanting to get up and ‘start breakfast’ for Bill and the boys!!! Thru our many talks, I could easily tell, that Jean LOVED Christmas!!! I always told her that I wish we had been neighbors, so we could have baked cookies together, and had coffee together every morning. This darling lady will be very missed, by all, at Ephrata Manor. Looking forward to the day that we will surely be ‘neighbors’ in Heaven!!!! RIP…..till we meet again!!!! Love, Kay Yoder, CNA
