Jeanne G. Miller, 80
Jeanne G. (Patterson) Miller, 80, of Lancaster, died unexpectedly Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Paoli Hospital, Chester County. In her last moments she was surrounded by her extended family and we praise our Lord and Savior for her life and for her love for and trust in Jesus.
Born in Teaneck, NJ, she was the wife of Charles N. Miller, Jr. of Lancaster, to whom she was married 62 years. She was the daughter of the late George Patterson, Sr., an orchid grower with H. Patterson & Sons in Bergenfield, NJ, and the late Catherine (Pape) Patterson.
Jeanne spent the majority of her life in Bergenfield, NJ and moved to Bridgewater, NJ in 1966. She and her husband moved to Lancaster in 2005, where she became a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Lititz. She was previously a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Bergenfield, NJ and of Somerset Hills Lutheran Church in Basking Ridge, NJ. A 1951 graduate of Edgewood Park Junior College in Briarcliff Manor, NY, she was employed for a time with the American Radiator Company of Geneva, NY and the New York Life Insurance Company in New York City.
A woman of quiet strength, kind heart and deep Christian faith, Jeanne found great joy in serving others both through her church and in her community through simple tasks of love. An avid knitter, she knitted hats and mittens for Samaritan’s Purse, a charity serving the less fortunate. She was devoted to her extended family, faithfully recognizing birthdays, anniversaries and baptismal birthdays and providing encouragement through regular correspondence. A lifelong homemaker, she was skilled in cooking, sewing and quilting and used these talents as well to serve others. Her joys in life included birding, walking, gardening and spending time with family and friends on the beloved family farm in New York’s Catskill Mountains.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Janet Elaine Adams and her husband Bruce of Glenelg, MD; two sons: Douglas Charles Miller and his wife Zenobia of Reisterstown, MD and Paul Jeffrey Miller and his wife Donna of Horsham; a sister, Eileen DiSavino of Northvale, NJ; a brother, Robert Patterson of Gwynedd; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen J. Lockwood, and a brother, George Patterson, Jr.
Memorial services will be held at 5 PM Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 308 Petersburg Rd., Lititz, PA 17543 with Rev. Jeffrey Webb officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 PM on Friday, February 1, 2013 and again Saturday from 1 to 3 PM at Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Steve & Pam (& Family)
Paul, I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. My sympathy goes out to your family. I lost my father suddenly two years ago and almost lost my mother on January 1st. I understand how difficult it is to loose a parent. I will make a point to stop in and see you the next time I’m in Newtown.
Sincerely,
Vince Varano.
May the Lord bless each of the Miller family members. We can imagine how difficult it must be to navigate through this period after the loss of such a lovely, sweet lady. May He uplift you and support you each day.
Chuck, you must know how much we will miss Jeanne. We look forward to continuing our friendship with you, and stand ready to help you in any way that we can.
Love in Jesus,
Irene and Jack
Paul, I am so sorry for your loss. I know you were close with your mother. Her gifts always showed in your kindness and wisdom. I hold dear the kindness and patience you showed me during my mother’s illness and passing.
I hope to make the services Saturday night.
From my heart.
Angie
We can only say that God looked around His garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth and saw your Mothers tired face. He put His arms around her and lifted her to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so He closed your Mothers weary eyelids and whispered to her, "Peace be you".
It breaks our hearts to see you lose her but you know she didn’t go alone, for part of us went with her the day God called her home.
May she rest in the peace of the Lord and may He hold you and your family in His warm embrace.
The Barrett family sends our condolences and sympathy to you, Paul and your family. My family will keep your family in our prayers.
Miller family, I’m sorry to hear about your loss. Heartfelt condolences and sympathies from the Hitzel family.
