Jeannie Marie Hubbs, 75

March 29, 2022

Jeannie Marie Hubbs, 75, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Angela (Guardino) Torregrossa. Jeannie was the loving wife of Bruce L. Hubbs with whom she celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Jeannie was gifted in sign language and utilized her skills for many years in the IU-13 program. She taught sign language for 10 years with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, Lancaster. Jeannie had the privilege of interpreting for Bishop Desmund Tutu and Olympia Dukakis when they visited Lancaster County. She also volunteered as an interpreter at St. John Neumann Catholic Church and the Fulton Theater.

A parishioner of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, she served on the parish council. She also served as past president and was the current vice president of the Italian Cultural Society. Jeannie found great enjoyment cooking for family and friends, sharing her talent by offering cooking classes to her neighbors. She also enjoyed traveling, music, and dancing. However, Jeannie’s greatest love was her family. She relished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, especially the time spent cooking with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Bruce, she will be greatly missed by her children: Matthew Hubbs, husband of Kim, of Duxbury, MA, Michele Consylman, wife of Craig, of Lebanon, and Christopher Hubbs, of Millersville; 9 grandchildren: Audrey, Victoria, Britny, LiErin, Rachel, Bruce Robert, Jaden, Joule, and Anders; and great-grandchildren: Vivian, Leo, and another on the way. Jeannie is also survived by her sister, Dee Viscardi, wife of John. She was preceded in death by siblings Natalie Fusco and Francis Torregrossa.

Visitation will be held from 10AM to 11AM, Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. I only just learned of Jeannie’s passing.  I had the privilege of working with her at Warwick.  She was always a bright light, quick with a smile, and always advocating for kids.  The world is a much better place for her presence in it.  My sincere condolences.  Chris Bunce

Our deepest sympathies (and apologies for the late response – we just heard today). Our family is saddened at this news. We remember Jeannie’s quick smile, her laugh and her willingness to actually stop to talk to us about life and the neighborhood ‘goings-on’. She always seemed to be on the move. We remember her kindness in welcoming us to the neighborhood 18+years ago and the neighborhood gatherings. Our teenagers remember Jeannie as the Halloween Witch and we tried to make it to her home during each of those events. We hope to honor her memory as long as we live.

Jeannie was a true encouragement and a good friend at Universal Athletic Club.  The place has a piece missing since she is not there….yet a vivid reminder of who she really was.  Her lovely smile and attentive spirit
I want to communicate that it has been my pleasure to know and experience time with Jeannie as we met at Universal Athletic Club.  There is a big missing part in this place without her…..yet memories continue as she left a very impacting message by her life and love for others.   She will be missed and cherrished.  She used her giftedness to make others feel special and important.  I am sure I am sending these thoughts not just from me, but from many who enjoyed water classes with her.  God’s strength, help, mercy, and grace be yours this day and each day moving forward.  That’s why, Jesus, His son came to be our shepherd.
Blessings and prayers,  Elsie Wiley

Our love and prayers go out to Bruce for your continued healing. To our beloved Jeannie, who is in Heaven. Prayers are for your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Our love and prayers will NEVER stop.

Jeannie was a good friend, and a caring person. She was always doing something for someone else, and expressing genuine love and caring for people. We served together on past Lancaster Italian Cultural Society Board. It was fun to work on programs together for the club. We worked so well together. Always shared about her family, which I always enjoyed….especially when she would use her puppets to communicate with her grandchildren over the Internet! VERY special times, indeed.

Bill, Suzanne, Carrie and I are heartbroken to hear of Jeannie’s passing. She was always so sweet and cheerful when we’d see her taking walks through the neighborhood or if we stopped by. She was especially supportive neighbor when Mom and Dad were sick and after they passed. Our hearts go out to all of you. She will be greatly missed.

Please accept my deepest sympathy as you mourn the passing of Jeannie.  I worked with her at Penn Manor H.S. and loved the days when she was on assignment there.  What a sense of humor she had!  May fond memories sustain your family during this sad time.

Bruce and Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.  Jeannie was such a special person, beautiful inside and out.  Working with her at IU#13, I know that she had a gift as a Sign Language Interpreter…and, I can tell you that it didn’t matter where she was assigned, she brought light and laughter with her, and the staff fell in love with her.  Heaven has gained an angel and I know she will greet each of us with her amazing smile when we gain our wings and join her.   May God Bless you all and give you comfort.

Jeannie, I do not want to think that you are gone, I’ll just think that you are on another exotic trip abroad or visiting the grandkids for an extended time and you will come back and talk about it in your usual funny ways. So, I will only say: ‘Safe Travel and God be with you!’
