Joan R. Evans, 86

January 28, 2025

Joan R Evans (Gring), 86, passed away January 28, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson and Beatrice Gring (Ray). Born on January 30, 1938 in Reading, PA., she graduated from Reading High School in 1955 and married and worked in Reading for many, many years at Chestnut Operating Company doing accounting and payroll.

Surviving is her son, Mark A Albrecht (Lisa) of Sinking Springs, daughter Kathi L Shaffer (Douglas) of Hamburg and Kelli A Ryan (David) of Lititz. She loved being a grandmother to 8 grown grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J Evans, her parents and her brother, K. Michael Gring.

Joan loved spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and with her numerous cats over the years, most recently Cooper and Cocoa. She loved the Maine Coon and Persian breeds and was never happier then when they were sitting on her lap sleeping while she watched TV. She enjoyed watching jeopardy and answering the questions and completing crossword puzzles. Prior to moving out of the area her and Robert were very active in the Reading Community Players where they contributed in so many ways from acting, props, set up, tear down, costumes – you name it and they helped to get the shows up and running. Upon moving to Delaware, they continued their love of the arts with the Wilmington Drama League where they spent many years again contributing in numerous ways.

January 31, 2025

To her family and friends; You are in my thoughts and prayers. As her personal care assistant for little over a year we shared lots of time together. ” Thanks for entrusting me with your time you will be missed, but I have great memories to cherish”.
