John Arthur Chute, 94
February 20, 2023
John Arthur Chute, 94, of Ephrata passed away peacefully February 20, 2023. He was born in Nova Scotia, Canada to the late Arthur and Jean (Morrison) Chute in the summer of 1928. He honorably served in the United States Army as a Sergeant during the Korean war and took great pride in his service. Afterwards John became a citizen and eventually settled in Lancaster County.
John loved to go fishing and canoeing at his favorite spot, Speedwell Forge Lake. He would go as often as he was able and continued into his 90’s. He also liked to “fossil hunt”, he would explore and search for fossils and found joy in his discoveries. In his later years he picked up a talent for painting and writing poetry which would occupy his leisure time.
John is survived by his daughter Peggy Jean Vivola wife of Richard of Lititz; his grandchildren Jean Vivola wife of Michael Gernert of Lititz and Richard Vivola of Lititz; and his sister Betty Mellen wife of Lenny of MA. Along with his parents John is preceded by his loving wife of 38 wonderful years, Jean (Hart) Chute and his sister Barbara Webber.
A memorial service will be held March 8, 2023, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz at 6PM. A visitation will take place one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s honor to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org/donate/.
