John E. Murphy, Sr., 82
John E. Murphy Sr., 82, of Annville, passed away, Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Spang Crest Manor Nursing Home. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Margaret (Reilly) Murphy. John is the husband of Dorothy (Waltz) Murphy with whom he celebrated 13 years of marriage this past August 17th. He was previously married to the late Elizabeth F. (Shahadi) Murphy.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was then employed by the IRS for 31 years. John was a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus Chapter #12532, also in Chapter #0915, a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, and their Over 50 Club, the American Legion Post 0056 Garden Spot, VFW Post 9465 Essington, NARFE of Lancaster, and Commercial Travelers.
Surviving in addition to his wife Dorothy is a son; John E. Murphy Jr. husband of JoAnne of Maytown. A step-daughter Linda Mansour wife Gabi of Claymont, DE. 3 grandchildren; Lauren J. Murphy, Jared B. Murphy, and Bryn A. Murphy. 2 step-grandchildren; Adam M. Derr and Abbie Derr. 1 step-great grandson. 5 step-children; Sherry L. Williams wife of Joel of Lebanon, Randolph Frick of Lebanon, Shelley L Arnold wife of Ray Jr. of Lebanon, Sharon Courtier wife of Scott of Lebanon, and Sheree Hemperly of Annville. 6 step- grandchildren, and 1 step great granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church 125 S. Spruce St. Annville, Pa 17003 with Rev. John Peck as Celebrant. Family and friends will be received Monday, September 7, 2009 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz 17543 from 5-7 p.m. and again on Tuesday at the church from 10-11 a.m. The Rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home Monday night.
