Obituaries
John Hawkes, 68
October 04, 2024
John Hawkes slipped peacefully from this life sleeping next to his wife while floating in South China Sea. The dash between his dates March 25, 1956 and October 4, 2024 were rich, adventurous, and filled with love. A stanch liberal and environmentalist, John was a volunteer firefighter, hunter, Eagles fan, avid boater, epic air guitarist, Florida snowbird, world traveler enthusiast and father and grandfather. He lived life to the fullest.
in addition to his spoiled wife Gloria, John is survived by his beloved daughter Rebecca Hawkes and his grandchildren Harper Swiatek and Tinsley Swiatek. John is also survived by his mother Maryellen, brother Jeff, sister Mari, and newfound sister Anne, and he was predeceased by his father John Hawkes. Major life events and holidays were celebrated with his in-laws, his favorite of which was Ruth Mattioni his wife’s sister.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 2nd at noon. His daughter Rebecca will post details of the event on FaceBook.

Hi Gloria, My name is Joe Moore and we haven’t met (yet). I am looking forward to getting to know you and sharing co-circle keeping duties at the December 3rd community gathering. I read about you on the “Meet our Public Education Champions” website. We share common values and am confident that we will work well together. I read the obituary for your dear husband John. It sounds like you shared a wonderful life together filled with adventure and working to make this a kinder, gentler world. As a Quaker, our way of offering spiritual support is to say that I will be holding you and your family “In the Light.” 🙏❤️ Joe

So sorry for your loss, never got to know him like the rest of my Riggtown boys, I was serving in the military at the time and missed out on all of the great times on Linden street. John only called me by my Riggtown name Dipe. And only a Riggtowner could use it. He was a good man and will be missed but never forgotten. 🙏🙏❤️❤️
