I was very much lost for words when I saw John in saturdays newspaper. I was hit with a flood of great memories of John and me as young children. Experiences I had with John and the influences of him and his family I will always cherish. Stuff like his dad yelling at him hurry up and close the door you’re letting the heat out. Other things we used to do was go swimming at Brookside pool, race ho race cars, riding bikes, splitting firewood and flying gas airplanes. I have not seen John for at least 35 years. Even then he was a Steelers fan way back in the 70’s. My friendship with him was good and positive. I am truly sorry to hear of his passing. He was a Great American. MELVIN W. CRAMER

I was very saddened when I heard of John’s passing. We worked together in Reading at Standard Offset. Sometimes we would get together after work and the subject of his wife Catherine and their children always came up. I always admired that. I would listen and see how proud he was of his family. I have not been in touch with him for a few years but thought of him often. Wondering what he was up to. I would like to offer my condolences to the entire family. May God give you all Peace in the memory of a good man.

I was so saddened by Johns passing. Although I only ran into him at the Band Club once in a while I always enjoyed seeing him and asking about you Catherine. He was always so happy and loved showing me pictures of the kids. It made me happy to hear all about you and your growing family. Casey and I send our love and warmest thought to you and your family.

To Chuck, Barb, Lisa & Catherine. I will forever remember John as a happy go lucky guy, for his sense of humor, and for someone who liked to joke with people, but sometimes couldn’t take it if the joke was on him. It was 30 years ago that John had gotten me into smallgame and deer hunting, a passion for deer hunting that I hold dear still to this day. John was a hard worker and a real go-getter, he and I had a lot of fun, whether it’d be hunting, having a few drinks, or me falling from his brothers pick-up truck one weekend at the cabin. I SURVIVED! Over the years, we had lost touch, from working different jobs, families, or things that sometimes you have no control over. I had learned of John’s illness only 7 months ago, and I got in touch with him via Facebook. I had recently, on Dec. 3rd visited him at the hospital, he asked me why I wasn’t out deer hunting? I told him that I had just worked all night, John said; Come on Kirby, we used to hunt after work all the time, and I said that was a long time ago, when we were much younger. I had met his wife Catherine on that morning, but that was the last time that I saw John. I text him around Christmas to wish him and his family a good holiday, or to make the best of it considering what they are going through. I said that I would get up to Brownstown to visit after the holidays. John was much too young for the Lord to take him, but he will forever have a special place in my thoughts and prayers for Catherine and their children. I am happy that I was able to see him that morning at the hospital, even though it was just for an hour. Please, remember him for his legacy, which was made possible from his great parents, especially his father! Forever a friend you are to me John.
