John Joseph Sloan, 73

John Joseph Sloan, 73, of Lancaster, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Mary (Mullin) Sloan. He was married to Betty (Kuhns) Bisking-Sloan for over 12 years.
John attended grade school in Philadelphia at Holy Innocence and went on to attend North Catholic High School where he earned his GED.
He was a warehouse manager for many years and later purchased a campground in Equinunk, PA that he owned and operated for several years.
John was a longtime member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church where he served as an extraordinary minister for the Eucharist for a short time.
He proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and later as a reservist for the US Marine Corp.
John loved to play golf and enjoyed horseback riding. He was also an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mark Sloan and John Paul Sloan, both of Harrisburg; a daughter, Kimberly Sloan wife of Dennis Connelly of Philadelphia. Two stepchildren, Jeffery W. Bisking husband of Debbie of Daytona Beach, FL, and Karen Grove wife of George of Lancaster. Also surviving are five grandchildren, George, Justin and Lindsay Grove; Jemerson Crouse, Justin Sloan, and one great-granddaughter, Grace Olivia Moncavage and one brother, Patrick Sloan husband of Jane of FL. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 929 N. Duke St., Lancaster, PA 17602. A viewing will be held from 6-8PM on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA and again from 9:15-10:15AM at the funeral home on Wednesday. Interment in St. Joseph’s New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Anne’s Catholic Church at the above address and to Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
