John Lambert Botham, 93

John Lambert Botham, 93, of Strasburg, PA, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024, at Lancaster Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He shared 69 years of marriage with his wife Ruby (Shubotham) Botham. John and Ruby were both born in Wishaw, Scotland and they immigrated to the United States on July 7, 1956.
He earned an associate degree from Thaddeaus Stevens Trade School and worked for Armstrong World Industries for 40 years as an electrical engineer. John travelled all over to Armstrong plants in the United States.
John was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Strasburg, serving as Head Usher, Trustee, on Church Admin Board, Lay Leader, Sunday school teacher, CCK-Wednesday Children’s after school program, and in the Christmas Pageant for 60 years as one the three Kings. He also served at Pocono Plateau Children’s Camp.
He loved tending to his garden. As a family, John enjoyed travelling the U.S. and Canada, on many camping trips, and returning home to Scotland. John and Ruby last travelled home in 2017.
While living in Scotland, John served in the British Army from 1949-1951 as a military policeman in Egypt at the Suez Canal. He was also a member of Masonic St. Clair Lodge No. 13 in Wishaw.
John is survived by his loving wife Ruby, his brother Allan Botham, husband of Agnes of Carluke, Scotland, nieces and nephews, and his cousins, Doug Williams, husband of Toni of Strasburg, and Chris Reimers of Livingston, MT.
John was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elizabeth (Allan) Botham, and his and Ruby’s sons, William Gordon Botham in 1983 and Andrew Arthur Botham in 2016.
There will be no formal services and John’s cremated remains will be returned to Scotland.
