John Paul Stank, Jr., 67

February 13, 2024

John is with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. John Paul Stank Jr., 67 of Lancaster, departed this earthly life into eternal glory on February 13, 2024, leaving a hole in the hearts of his sisters, Barbara Stank (William Simpson), Christine Anater (Stephen), Lisa Zimmerman, Julie Abel (Michael) and his brothers Geoffrey (Mary) and Joseph (Beth) Stankiewicz, as well as his Aunt Gene Schacht, with whom he resided and for whom he provided care, cooking and companionship.

John’s faith was the focus of his life. That faith was complete and unquestioning, and he left this life fully confident that a better life was ready for him.

John and Barbara were especially close. They shared a love of food and cooking, and they frequently made trips to the family cabin in Union County to maintain and improve the property and to enjoy their latest culinary creations.

Born in Lancaster on March 1, 1956, John was the third child of the late John and Claire (Yentzer) Stank. He graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1974 and Kutztown State College in 1978 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts cum laude. John started his history of providing service in the hospitality industry while in high school and college at Conestoga Country Club. After college, he continued working in the restaurant and hotel industries with the Regent and Four Seasons hotels in Washington DC and Los Angeles, California. While at the Four Seasons, John completed his training as a sommelier. Concurrent with his work in hospitality, John was a highly skilled artist and established Stanart Studio in Washington, DC where he did many commissioned portraits and other works. Many pieces of his artwork can be found in all of the homes of his family. He was equally talented painting portraits and painting houses and he could fix just about anything.

John loved his pets starting with family cats, his dear dachshund Abigail and his faithful companion Otis. John tenderly performed many pet sitting duties for family members.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister Claire Clunan. In addition to his brothers and sisters, he is survived by the following nieces and nephews, Rebecca Clunan, Melissa Tritt, Anne Stankiewicz, Paul Stankiewicz, Alison Seese, Lauren McMinn, Evan Peppers, Andrew Zimmerman, Jill Healy, Jack Zimmerman, Ryan Abel, Alex Abel, Matthew Abel, Grace Edwards, and Jake Stankiewicz. He also was the proud uncle to seventeen grand nieces and nephews with another grand niece and nephew soon to be born. John also leaves his dear friend, Michael Cianci.

John was a kind, gentle soul who was willing to help anyone. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him.

A service to remember and honor John will be held on Friday, March 1 at 11 AM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Family will receive guests at 10 AM. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. To leave an online condolence, visit SnyderFuneralHome.com.

John and I spent many hours working together in the church kitchen. He was such a kind and caring person always willing to try one more thing. He perfected chocolate baklava in our kitchen!  Thanks John for loving so well.

John was very kind, thoughtful and always ready to lend a helping hand. He was also very funny and I will always remember his wonderful cooking and gorgeous artwork. I hope his family will find comfort in knowing how special he was and how lucky we are to have known him.

Once my sister, my mother, and John and I were leaving a restaurant in Beverly Hills. On the way home, John stopped, reached behind a stone wall, and pulled-out two beautiful bouquets of flowers for them! He secretly placed them there, beforehand. I also remember a time when someone was lying on the street, after having fallen. A crowd gathered, and John was the only one to spring into action to come to their aid.So, John, can you now actually reach the ceiling line easily, as promised years ago?

Rest In Peace John.  You were always so shy and kind.  We did have fun driving to Lancaster Catholic with the car over flowing with kids.  You will be in my prayers.
Love,

For those of us that had the priviledge of being in John’s orbit, know how much John believed in serving others. We are eternally grateful for John’s companionship and the help that he brought to our lives.  Rest in peace, dear cousin.
