John William Fisher, 75
November 28, 2022
John William Fisher, 75, of Lititz, PA, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022. Born in Danville, PA, he was the son of the late Leo Fisher, Sr. and Mary Fisher.
John graduated from Shamokin High School. Soon after, he enlisted in the US Air Force and served faithfully until he was forced to retire due to an event that left him legally disabled at only 22 years old. Following his retirement, he attended Elizabethtown College before becoming a lobbyist and advocate for Disabled American Veterans working out of Philadelphia. He was a strong supporter of programs that improved the lives of those living with a disability. His role as a proud veteran and advocate for disabled Americans meant the world to him. John’s independence was greatly enhanced over the years by two service dogs, Indy and Brogan. They were his best buddies and went on many adventures together. John also had a passion for old cars, attending many shows and club events. He also was a member of the Keystone Miniature Model Car Club for which he hosted for several years. John could definitely be described as very independent, sometimes to a fault. He liked traveling and following his two favorite footballs teams, the Steelers and Eagles.
John is survived by his 2 siblings: Leo Fisher, Jr. and Patricia A. Clifford; a nephew Raymond Clifford (Bonnie Hockenbury), and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Jim Fisher and sister Joanne M. Fisher.
A time for friends and family to gather will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 10-11 AM at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543, with a service to begin at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

John was the first, the best and longest friend I had. We never lost touch. After his unfortunate injury we became closer. When he lived in Elysburg we were again neighbors. John was a soul mate. One extremely winter night I awakened at 3:AM and immediately I heard him in my mind. I hurried, got up and dressed and made my way to John’s. It was a freezing blizzard. As I got out of the car I heard his voice weakly calling. He was stuck on his ramp going into his house and couldn’t get his chair to move. He was not warmly dressed having gone out to check on his car. Down was OK but ramp was a sheet of ice and he couldn’t get up it. It was a close call and I am sure God woke and directed me to him. He was blue cold but couldn’t feel it. No need for details but God blessed us that night. Now, we were far from being angels and had a lot of “iffy” fun timed. One day while I was running/pushing his wheel chair, hit a curb and dumped both of us in the middle of the street. John was laughing so hard I couldn’t get him back in his chair. I am truthly saying he never got bitter living life to the fullest he could. He was a proud veteran and lived his life to serve his fellow vets. We had a lot of fun. We had endless laughs. My life is richer even in his death. He was well cared for by American Veterans. I can’t wait for us the meet again physically whole to rejoice and glorify God.
