Joseph C. Gochenauer, 88

June 23, 2019

Joseph C. Gochenauer, 88, of Lititz, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2019.
He was the husband of Patricia Boyer Gochenauer, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage last October. Born in Lancaster City “Cabbage Hill”, he was the son of the late Charles and Miriam Kahley Gochenauer.

He was a 1948 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School and attended Grace Lutheran Church in the 40’s and 50’s and a current member of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church. After graduation and again after his discharge from the Army, he worked for the RCA Corporation.

He was a US Army veteran, serving as a Corporal from 1952 to 1954 with the Third Infantry Division. He was a member of the “Old Guard”, providing military honors for servicemen being interred in Arlington National Cemetery.

A graduate of the Reisch American School of Auctioneering in Mason City, Iowa, he was a licensed auctioneer and oversaw the horse auction for the John Deere family in Illinois and the Almarsh Arabian auction for Bazy Tankersly and Bart Twp Fire Co. 1st Mud Sale.

In years past, he performed throughout the US with his horse, Trigger, doing trick riding with over 20 stunts. Bud had given riding instruction at the Girl Scout Camp in Furnace Hills, at Camp Kiwanis, Lebanon Pa and the Circle T Ranch, Stevens Pa. A professional licensed horseman, Bud judged horse shows throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Germany. He was an American Horse Show Assn Lifetime member as well as the Paint Horse Assn., the Appaloosa Horse Club, the Arabian Horse Assn., Morgan Horse Assn., Palomino Horse Assn., Pinto Horse Assn., Pony of America Club and the Circle T Trail Riders. Until recently, he attended the New Holland Horse Sale every Monday for the past 50 years.

Bud was a founder of his family business, Gochenauer Kennels in 1971 and continued to have input until recently. By his example of a strong work ethic and a love of animals, the business continues on.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Joseph C. “Jody” Jr., married to Cynthia Gochenauer of Manheim, and Timothy A. married to Lana Gochenauer of Seattle, WA; his grandson Joseph C III married to Danielle Gochenauer, great grandson Tyler of Lebanon Pa, and his granddaughter Kaitlyn Gochenauer of Manheim Pa. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Knight, of Street, MD and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Rehm.

Friends will be received on Monday, July 1, 2019 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA from 10-11AM, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11AM. Interment will be private in Middle Octorara Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Bud’s memory to the Alzheimers Assn., Greater PA Chapter, 706 Rothsville Rd., Lititz, PA 17543 or to the Central PA Horse Rescue, 100 Spanglers Rd., Lewisberry, PA 17339. Pat, Jody, Gochenauer Family members:  My thoughts and prayers remain with you this day and beyond. . as you gather to celebrate Bud’s life.   Indeed!  What a remarkable man!  Many are the fond memories of engaging him in his tiny Trading Post–East, a part of the Kennels, when returning from “The West” in ’99.  Those conversations and our engagements around BraveHeart’s care remain unforgettable; they–and YOU–provided stability for me at a time of transition. Blessings to you all, now, throughout this time of your significant transition.  Love, Larry

I knew Bud years ago from Columbia Riding Club meetings and horse shows.  His knowledge and experience were valued there, and the Club continues to this day.

Melanie and I are blessed to have known Bud and his family for many wonderful years. Bud and Pat were especially kind to my parents over the years. That kindness did not stop when their health declined. Hey, what a great life Bud lived. So many memories! Best to the family.  Sincerely, Melanie and Jim Glick

What an amazing man, what an amazine life!  Have many great childhood memories with our Uncle Buddy!  Totally enjoyed his last visit to my mother before she passed away.  He was quite a character and during that visit he shared many of his life experiences including photos of he and Trigger (always loved Trigger) and of his service at Arlington Cemetary.  So much to be proud of, so much to be missed!  Sending you all my love and prayers for comfort at this difficult time.  Jody, you are particularly in my thoughts and prayers!  Much love, Sallie
