Joseph Samuel Kauffman, 79
January 29, 2025
Joseph Samuel Kauffman, 79, of Strasburg, made it home, welcomed by his Heavenly Father on January 29th, 2025,following a brief illness.
Joseph, lovingly known as ‘pop’ to many, leaves a legacy of trusting in the Lord and devotion to his tightly knit family, always with a playful attitude and calm spirit. He enjoyed life simply, quietly, yet abundantly, ready for adventures both big and small.
Joseph spent his formative years working hard on the family dairy farm in Atglen, a property owned and operated by the Kauffman family since 1894. Later, he worked as an excavator for thirty-five years until retiring from G.R. Stoltzfus in Parkesburg.
Additionally, he faithfully served his church family in many roles over his forty years attending High View Church of God.
Joseph married Michele (Wilson) Kauffman with whom he would have celebrated a fifty-year anniversary this May. Joseph esteemed fatherhood, always supporting his three children’s interests and pursuits: oldest son, Joseph Kauffman, and twins, Jamie Kauffman and Jana Smith.
An avid hunter, Joseph cherished the time with his sons, grandsons, and friends at the “Kauffman Camp”, a beloved family cabin in Centre County, Pennsylvania. The cabin was Joseph’s happy place and holds a host of sweet memories.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mae (Smoker) Kauffman, and sister, Esther Bare. In addition to his three children, he leaves behind two brothers, Glenn Kauffman and Elvin Kauffman, and sister, Rose Kauffman. He is survived by four grandchildren, Hayley, Jordan, Brady, and Walker, and one great-grandson, Lorenzo.
A public memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, February 7, at High View Church of God, 2470 Leaman Rd. Ronks, PA. Family and friends will be received from 2 p.m. until the time of service.
A heartfelt thank-you goes out to staff at Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, the 8th floor at Lancaster General Hospital, and Penn Medicine Home Health for taking such great care of Joseph and his family in these past few months.
