My Mom, Gloria (Binkley) Cox spoke often about Josie and how vivacious and wonderful she was. They were the same age, and shared a grandfather. I remember meeting her as a child, but mostly what a positive influence she was on my mother, encouraging her to be herself and forge her own life (in California).

Josie was vibrant, driven, sophisticated, and probably one of the funniest people I have ever met. She could make you laugh by the 4th or 5th word in any sentence she spoke and she was never without something to say. I shall miss our spirited conversations together and the wonderful friendship we shared with one another.

Josie could always make you smile and laugh. She remained young at heart for many, many more years than most. After my father became widowed, he and Josie spent much time together. She brought some light into his life and kept him younger than his years. Her jokes and stories were legendary as was her love for friends and her family.

It is with sadness that I learned of Josie’s passing. Many was the Friday morning that we would visit for a short time when I delivered her meals for Meals on Wheels. Her sense of humor was always a bright spot in my day. When she transitioned to the Mennonite Home I was able to continue my visits on Wednesday afternoons after I finished with volunteering. I’ll miss our visits but I am happy that she is now at peace.
