Josephine P. Hochheimer, 87
July 28, 2018
Josephine P. Hochheimer, 87, formerly of Lineboro, MD, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Moravian Manor in Lititz, PA.
Jo was the wife of the late Bernard F. Hochheimer, who passed away in 2002. Born in Washington DC, she was the daughter of the late Samuel A. and Eleanor M. Bosworth Porlino.
Jo was a graduate of the University of Maryland where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She worked at the Johns Hopkins Applied Science Laboratory, where she first met her future husband of over 46 years. She later became a homemaker and was a partner in everything with Bernie, including their purchase of a farm in Lineboro, which became Black Rock Orchard, now owned and operated by her son, David and his wife, Emily Zaas.
In addition to being the nicest, kindest soul, Jo was a great cook, known for her spaghetti sauce, her amazing apple pie and much coveted apple sauce and jams. She loved hosting family gatherings, travelling the United States, and going to the beach, especially Bethany Beach.
She is survived by her truly cherished children: David and wife Emily of Lineboro, MD, John and wife Mary Beth Corrigan of Alexandria, VA, Brian and wife Marjorie Wax of Catonsville, MD, Elaine Lutz and her husband Chris of Denver, PA, Linda Price and her husband Tom of Kauai, HI, and Gordon of Baltimore, MD; her 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several cousins, including Gwen Martin of Gaithersburg, MD and her stepsister Jackie Humphreys of Solomons, MD.
A celebration of Jo’s life will be held on Sunday, August 26th from 5 to 8 pm at the Lineboro MD Volunteer Fire Department. An avid reader throughout her life, Jo asked that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to your local library or other worthy charity.
