Joyce A. Frey, 83

Joyce A. Frey, 83, of Lancaster, passed away on May 23, 2024. She was born at the Reading Hospital in West Reading, Berks County, PA. She was the daughter of the late Howard D. and Grace B. (Kunkelman) Graul.

Joyce was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, later attending church services at Woodcrest Villa. She attended Elementary School at Glenside and Junior High at Northwest and graduated from Reading High School in 1958. She then graduated from The Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. On November 9, 1963, she married H. Wayne Frey, her husband of 52 years. He passed away March 10, 2016. She worked as a Registered Nurse for five years and then enjoyed being a “stay at home mom” after the birth of their son David in 1966.

Joyce is survived by her son David W. Frey of Akron, sisters-in-law May E. Frey and Arlene F. Fawber, both of Lancaster, and Jean M. Krumrine (Harold) of Hanover, nine nieces, and six nephews.

Joyce moved to Woodcrest Villa in 2016.

Memorials for Joyce from her family and friends should be sent to the Benevolent Care Program at Mennonite Home Communities, Attn: Kim Peters, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 3 PM at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Guests will be received at 2 PM.

God has removed the arthritic pain Joyce suffered for too long. She is with Wayne totally healed. The awful grace of God gave her eternal peace.

Dear Friends, We arre so sorry to learn of your loss. Joyce was a Life Member of the Alumni Association of The Reading Hospital School of Nursing since 1990. She is also a Nightingale member. She will be missed.
A donation has been made to the Alumni Scholarship Fund to honor her memory.

I was a dear friend of Joyce Frey since we grew up together in Glenside. She was a delightful girl and a wonderful woman, who matured into an excellent and compassionate nurse. Joyce became a stay-at-home mom who always cared not only about her family but about the world. She was a good friend to me and the other girls we stayed in touch with over all these years. Joyce will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
