Joyce E. Herr, 58
Joyce E. Herr, 58, of Lititz, PA left this world to spend eternity with her Creator God on September 4th, 2010 after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer. She was lovingly cared for at home by family and friends during the last few weeks of her life.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Dr. Dwight A. Herr, of Lititz. They were happily married for 37 years, and have two wonderful daughters: Angela, wife of Ed Murphy, of Lititz with their two children, Noelle and Eliza; and Pamela, wife of Joey Rogers, of Richmond, VA with their son, Josiah. Joyce is also survived by her parents, J. Dale and Erma Landis of Lititz, as well as four sisters and one brother: Jean Yordy of MI, Josie Swartzentruber of OH, Jackie Sands of WA, Janice Martin of Womelsdorf, PA, and J. Dale Landis, Jr. of Mountville, PA.
After growing up on a farm across from Landis Homes, Joyce lived most of her married life in Muncy, PA and later, in Wellsboro, PA, before God finally called Joyce and Dwight into full-time mission work. They served with SEND, International in Central Siberia, where they helped to plant a church for Russians and Buryats. Their time there was cut short by Joyce’s cancer, and for the past five years they have lived in Lititz and attended Calvary Church.
Joyce will be remembered for her bubbly, friendly nature. Her laughter and infectious optimism warmed the hearts of those who knew her. Joyce’s hospitality and acceptance of others were a reflection of God’s love and grace.
Joyce adored her three grandchildren. She loved sharing life and Jesus with others, especially children and youth. She also enjoyed planting and nurturing her flowers, and sharing them with others. God richly blessed Joyce’s family with her life.
Because of Joyce’s faithfulness and dependence on her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we believe God is smiling at her now, saying, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Joyce’s Celebration of Life Funeral Service on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Calvary Church 1051 Landis Valley Rd. Lancaster, PA 17601 at 1:30pm with The Rev. Gordon Gregory officiating. Viewings will be held Friday evening from 6-9pm at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory 3110 Lititz Pk. Lititz, PA 17543 and again from 12noon-1:30pm at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Millport Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to: “SEND, International,” P.O. Box 513, Farmington, MI 48332, with a note directing the gift to Salvation Church in Ulan Ude, Siberia. Dear Dwight,
Today we were in Wellsboro and struck up a conversation with Ann Bower who was working at Dunhams Dept. Store. We chatted about you and Joyce and then she was sorry to have to give us the sad news of Joyce’s passing. I will always remember Joyce’s abundant joy and enthusiasm from the days in residency to when you lived in Muncy. Surely she had a wonderful impact on so many people as she shared her joy and love for Christ in all that she did. May all the wonderful memories be close to your heart until you are reunited again in eternity.
Warmly,
Ron & Cynde Eister
Williamsport, Pa.
Dear Family,
I was sorry to hear of Joyce’s passing. May the God of all comfort bless and strengthen each of you -(Dwight and family, parents, sisters and brother).
The newspaper obituary was well written. It described her so well, and I’m remembering her from school days! I have many fond memories of times spent with her and the family at the farm.
May God continue to bless and comfort you each day. May her testimony continue to encourage and draw people to Jesus Christ!

Dwight, Angie, Pam and family –
I am so saddened to hear about Joyce losing her battle with cancer. She certainly lived and enjoyed life to the fullest! I can still hear her laughter and excitement coming down that LONG and STEEP driveway on a sled the last winter you lived in Muncy. May your family find strength in prayer and faith to live your lives the way she would have wanted. Praying for you…
An old neighbor,
Sherry Gavitt

Dear All
We will all remember Joyce’s smile and laugh – to most of us that’s all we ever saw when we saw Joyce.
Sincerest sympathies to Dwight and Family and Dale and Erma and Joyce’s sisters and brother… it seems so tragic that her life was cut so short.
But we know she’s rejoicing in heaven and pray for peace and grace for her family.
Sincerely, Gregory & Anita Giagnocavo, Guatemala
Dwight, we were so sorry to hear of Joyce’s decline in health after we met at the Missionary Development Team Meeting some months ago. We have been praying for her and for you and the rest of the family. We rejoice with you that she has been released from her suffering, but we continue to pray for you, as we know you will miss Joyce so very much. May God give you comfort and encouragement as you face life here on earth without Joyce.

I am so sorry to hear of Joyce’s death. I wish I could be there to put my arms around all of you in your grief. I have so many fond memories of spending time with the Landis family years ago. Joyce was a very bubbly person and made you feel so special. She had a wonderful laugh! May God’s comfort be like a blanket of peace over you all as you walk through this time of grief.
