Joyce E. Shoff, 90

Joyce E. Shoff, 90, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023, at Newport Meadows Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Christiana, where she lived for the past 4 years.

Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Wayne and Mary McCarter Powell. Joyce graduated from Unionville High School with the class of 1950.

The former wife of an Army soldier, she had lived in Okinawa. In 1963 she set a transpacific record as a flight passenger to transport her ill son Donnie from Okinawa for emergency surgery.

Joyce was a wonderful homemaker for her family. She was very family oriented and was a great hostess to many. Having 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren Joyce would run through all their names to land on the correct name.

She enjoyed completing the daily New York Times crossword puzzle, as well as jigsaw puzzles. Joyce like owls, she was a voracious reader with many interests, and she could often be found singing songs.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Joni Mowery of Lancaster, and Christina M. wife of Jack Purcell of Peach Bottom, her son Philip Brian Shoff, husband of Barbie of Gilbert, SC; seven grandchildren, Samantha, Melinda, Rachael, Tina, Kristen, Kerek, and Tiffany, ten great-grandchildren, and her brothers, Gerald Powell of Kennett Square and Lewis Powell, husband of Lynn of Coatesville.

She was preceded in death by her son Donnie Shoff, husband of Tanya, her daughter, Jerri Shoff, and her brother David Powell, husband of Patricia.

Services and urn burial in Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gum Tree will be private.
