Judith M. “Judy” Sheckler, 85
May 29, 2024
Judith M. “Judy” Sheckler, 85, of Moravian Manor in Lititz, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on May 29, 2024. Born in Tyrone, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph G. Meredith, Sr. and Gladys (Stover) Meredith. She was married 61 years to her beloved husband and best friend, James T. Sheckler who preceded her in passing in 2021.
Judy was a graduate of Tyrone Area High School and later attended and graduated from Harrisburg School of Nursing. She worked over 50 years as an RN dedicating her time, skills, care, and compassion to those in need, finally retiring in her early 70s. Her passionate career permeated her approach to life and her innate ability to show patience, grace and positivity to all who knew her.
A resident of Moravian Manor since 2019, she became close friends with many and enjoyed the social events including game time of Canasta, Bunco and Rummikub. She even taught her grandchildren how to play Pinochle on vacation. An avid reader, she kept track of hundreds of books she has read and kept her mind sharp with Crossword puzzles and word games.
What began with learning how to sew from her mother, grew into an incredible talent for Counted Cross Stitch needlework. She developed a gift for knitting as she provided wraps of comfort and blessings with prayer shawls for anyone in need, through her faithful community at Grandview Church, where she was a 50+ year member. She valued the importance of traditions as she held the title of family photographer and historian. A loving wife, Mother and Mommom, she logged years of family gatherings and events in photographs to remember our journey together as a family. Her creativity and humor extended into designing and printing her own birthday cards for family members with a new theme every year.
Left to cherish her memories are her two children: Lawrence “Larry” A. Sheckler, husband of Nancy (Trees); her daughter, Kimberly “Kim”, wife of Paul Michael Bowers; five grandchildren, Ryan Sheckler, husband of Theresa, Jacey Mitchell, Paul T. Bowers, husband of Sarah, Alexander M. Bowers, husband of Kelsey, Adam M. Bowers, fiancé of Griffin Pendergast; five great-grandchildren, Liam and Rory Sheckler, Wesley and Brynlee Bowers, and Matilda Mitchell; her brother Joseph G. Meredith, Jr., husband of Jean; and sister-in-law Sally Cupp. She was predeceased by her grandson-in-law Andrew Mitchell.
In memory of Judy, her family would like you to: “play a game with your children, read a good book, eat some ice cream and show a random act of kindness to someone.”
The family is incredibly grateful for the compassionate care she received at Hospice & Community Care. Please omit flowers, and kindly consider a contribution in Judy’s memory to Hospice & Community Care 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601, www.hospiceandcommunitycare.org/in-honor-in-memory-gifts/.
Judy’s family will greet friends on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 9:30-11 AM at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. A memorial service will begin at 11 AM that will also be livestreamed. Private interment will be in the Grandview Church Memorial Garden.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Judy’s passing. Judy and I worked together for Dr. Diamantoni and we always had such a good time. She was a wonderful and compassionate nurse but also a fun person to be around. Please accept my heartfelt condolances at the loss of such a wonderul and special person.

We were so sad to hear that Judy had passed. She was in our Bible study in Warwick Woodlands. Several friends tried to visit her during the past month, and we didn’t know she was in Hospice. We will miss her very much.

I worked with Judy for so many years and she always found a way to turn any situation around. She was upbeat and always talking fondly of Jim, her kids and grandchildren. I am sure she was thrilled with grandchildren. A wonderful lady both inside and out!
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. She love you all! Wendy Harnish

I recently re-connected with Judy when she moved to Moravian Manor. Our husbands played in the Big, Big, Jazz Band. Judy was a wonderful lady, an expert knitter and I enjoyed our time together. The ladies in our Pins & Needles group at Moravian Manor will all miss her.
