Julia F. Douts, 83
June 19, 2019
Julia F. Douts, 83, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was born in Lancaster to the late Charles D. and Ada Wissler (Erb) Douts.
She worked at Goodwill Industries, and then at F & M College tending to the lab animals. Since becoming part of the Occupational Development Program, Julia was quick to befriend new participants and make them feel welcome. Her empathy and compassion for others was incredible and she could be counted on to comfort and cheer up a friend who was having a bad day.
Julia attended Happy Hearts Senior Center and she enjoyed playing bingo, doing jigsaw puzzles and watching TV game shows.
She was an active member of Community United Methodist Church and enjoyed going out for breakfast with church friends. Time spent with her family was very important to Julia.
Surviving are 6 siblings: Charles H. Douts, husband of Marlasee of York, William Douts of Glenmoore, Helen D. Friant of Elizabethtown, Irene Potts of Souderton, James Douts, husband or Marilyn of Lancaster and Fred A. Douts, husband of Shirley of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews. Her brothers John and Gerald Douts and sisters Doris Douts and Edythe Menditch preceded Julia in death.
A celebration of Julia’s life will take place 11 AM, followed by a greeting time, on Saturday, June 29th at Community United Methodist Church with Rev. Harry L. Kaufhold, Jr. and her nephew Rev. Douglas Friant officiating. Private interment in Mount Nebo U. M. Cemetery, Pequea. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider making a memorial contribution to Community U. M. Church, 130 Tennyson Dr., Lancaster, PA 17602.

I met Julia through Happy Hearts Senior Center at Rodney Park. She was a ray of sunshine and she was a friend to all the members of Happy Hearts that she came in contact with. She will truly be missed.
