June K. Hemsteger, 93

December 13, 2024

June K. Hemsteger passed away peacefully and entered into Jesus’ loving arms on December 13, 2024, at Luther Acres in Lititz, PA, at the age of 93. Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Amelia (Weisgerber) Richter. June was the beloved wife of John D. (Jack) Hemsteger, and together they shared 68 years of a devoted and loving marriage and raised a beautiful family.

June attended Michigan State University where she met and married the love of her life, Jack. She graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts’ degree in Education. June taught first grade students and also was a substitute teacher for many years. Her true calling was homemaker. She was an extremely talented seamstress, gardener, and cook.

June was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lancaster, where she spent many years participating in WELCA and St. Peter’s Quilting Group.

June’s pride and joy was her family and spending time with them. She and Jack travelled the world and returned frequently to Germany where a piece of their hearts will always be.

June is survived by three children: Michael J. Hemsteger and his wife Lynne of Huntersville, NC; Holly A. Bumbaco and her husband Michael of Virginia Beach, VA; and Laurel S. Salzmann and her husband John of Belmont, NC. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions in June’s memory may be offered to Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org, and Greenmore Farm Animal Rescue, www.greenmorerescue.org.

Condolences to the Family

December 28, 2024

To Michael, Holly, Laurel and your families.  Please accept my condolences on June’s passing.  I have many fond memories of her: the 1964 World’s fair when we all descended on your house and slept on the floor and so many other times. The one thing I really remember is her laugh! It was infectious. She was a force of nature and alway so nurturing and caring. She had a long and full life and still looked amazing at 93! As you know we lost our father Richard in January and now June in December. They were quite a pair and they loved each other strongly. They will definitely be missed, but we had the pleasure of their company for so many years. We are all blessed to have had such great parents.

Dear Friends. It is with great sadness of the passing of your mother June. I had the honor to serve her at Luther Acers for many years. Her smiles, stories and how much she loved each on of you. Because she sat closest to my kitchen area it made it even more special. That place will always have a special meaning to me. I think of her so very often and I know she is now reunited with her husband Jack. You just never knew what she would share from day to day. We talked many times of the lives she touched over the years and I’m blessed that she touched mine!! Much love to each of you. Know it was a privilege to k own and serve her. Most sincerely; Bill ” the butcher”
