At age five, I moved in with my grandparents, Kenneth & Gladys. Down at the farm, there were horses and chickens, dogs and cats. Plus, there was that in-ground pool that my grandmother insisted on, which was mostly maintained by Kenny. In his abundant garden, he grew green beans and potatoes, corn and tomatoes. I had an idyllic childhood.
In the Summer of 1999, Ken & I took a trip to Tennessee. During a conversation out on the road, Ken said “I believe that God has rewarded me for living a good life.” I certainly couldn’t argue with that. In fact, Ken has served as a father figure for many of us; to my brother Ron, to me, to his eleven nieces & nephews, and later in life, to Pat’s children and grandchildren. His was a long life, well lived. We commemorate his kindness, moderation, and decency. Thank you, Kenneth Lloyd Matz.

Kenny was my favorite uncle. Whenever we would come and visit family in Pa. I was lucky to spend some time with Uncle Kenny. He would let me choose one toy I could have which I was always thrilled to get. He also took us to many great restaurants and picnics. Once at a picnic a man got up to say he was going to feed the horses. I said there were no horses around. Uncle Kenny said that meant he was going to the rest room. I will always have fond memories of our time with Gladys and then Pat and Uncle Kenny. The Sunday picnics at the farm was always the highlight of our Pa. Visit.
