L. Gordon “Gordy” Wagner, Sr., 84

February 28, 2025

L. Gordon “Gordy” Wagner, Sr., 84, of Lancaster County, PA, formerly of Baltimore, MD, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Magnolias of Lancaster, after a long battle with vascular dementia.

Born in Baltimore, MD, Gordy was the son of the late Larry and Ruth Wagner. He was the beloved husband of the late Christena (Widdowson) Wagner, with whom he shared almost 48 years of marriage until her passing in 2010.

He was a proud graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (Poly) and the University of Baltimore where he earned a degree in Traffic Engineering. His dedication to service extended beyond his education, as he proudly served in the United States Coast Guard, stationed on a lightship before being deployed to Wake Island. He married Christena in 1962, and they later settled in Lancaster County, PA.

Gordy built a career as a truck driver, working tirelessly to support his family and proudly putting three children through college.

Gordy enjoyed serving as an usher and greeter in church and had a passion for road trips, trains, and the Daytona 500. He was an avid fan of bluegrass music, frequently attending shows, and forming close bonds with members of his favorite band, Bluestone, who considered him family and called him “Uncle Gordon.”

He leaves behind his children, Lon of Roanoke, VA, Lance of Lancaster, PA, and Amy of Harrisburg, PA. He was the proud grandfather of Ava, Sadie, Lilla, Madison, Mackenzie, and Luke. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and infant sister, Elaine.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to lifelong neighbors, friends, and loved ones who supported Gordy throughout his life. A special thank you to Dr. Donald Deibler, who visited him daily, and to Don’s companion, Beth, for her kindness and generosity in sharing Don’s time and care.

Gordy’s legacy of love, resilience, and sense of humor will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He believed that laughter IS the best medicine.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grane Home Health and Hospice, 1010 Plymouth Road, Suite D, York, PA 17402.

In honoring Gordon’s wishes for a “big send-off”, a “shindig” featuring bluegrass music and refreshments is being planned.

To Lon, Lance and Amy,  hoping the Lord is with you all during this time of loss.  Your parents always showed me kindness whenever I was over to play basketball.  I can still remember your dad commending me on my Indianapolis 500 shirt.
