Lawrence H. Meshey, 85
Lawrence H. “Mose” Meshey, 85, of Lancaster, PA, entered into rest on Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness. Born June 13, 1922 in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Harry V. and Emma (Schilling) Meshey. He was husband of Ruth H. (Brodhecker) Meshey and they observed their 59th wedding anniversary in August of last year.
Lawrence was a 1940 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School. During WWII he served with the 8th Air Force, 560th Bomb Sq., 388th Bomb Group H, stationed in England. In 1984 he retired from DeWalt (Black and Decker) after 27 years of service. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Nancy C., wife of David R. Bechtel; a son, Donald L., husband of Edie Hipple Meshey; four grandchildren, Andrew and Phillip Bechtel, and Donald Jr. and Susan Meshey; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Alyssa Bechtel, all of Lancaster; a sister, Rosalie E. Peters, also of Lancaster; a brother, John W. Bash of Orlando, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen J., and three sisters, Margaret (Peggy) Krallinger, Mary Simmons, and Elizabeth (Betty) Stockbauer.
A private service and interment will be held at Mellinger’s Mennonite Cemetery at the convenience of the family. If desired, contributions may be made in Lawrence’s memory to Christ United Methodist Church, 935 E. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA 17602, or to a charity of your choice. The Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home Inc, 414 East King Street, Lancaster, PA, 17602, is handling the arrangements.
