Linda Swift, 75

February 02, 2021

Linda Swift, age 75, passed away on February 2, 2021. Linda was married to Peter Swift, who died in 1996.

A well-loved Mother and Nana, Linda enjoyed spending time with her daughter Allison, the son of her heart Miguel Lopez, and granddaughter, Olivia, her pride and joy. Whether it was a hike, vacation, watching a movie, or enjoying a meal together, Linda loved spending time with her
family. She was a big animal lover, and had a particular soft spot for cats. Linda was an artist at heart, to the benefit of family and friends, who were the lucky recipients of many uniquely designed cards, painted pieces, and holiday inspired artwork. A weaver of Christmas magic, Linda was a gifted Christmas cookie baker, and could choose, wrap, and decorate a gift like no other.

Linda graduated from McCaskey High School, and Millersville University with a degree in education. While attending Millersville, Linda was a member of the synchronized swimming team. She was also a talented cook, and used her skills for many years at O’Halloran’s, the former Steinbecher’s. Born and raised in Lancaster, Linda enjoyed a lifetime of all the city has to offer. Often accompanied by her only sister and frequent sidekick, Susan Berntheizel, they shared many adventures visiting the perks of Lancaster, including the Fulton Theatre, many shops, and restaurants.

Linda was the daughter of Julia Taylor Eman and J. Harry Eman. She is survived by her daughter Allison Taylor Swift, son-in-law Miguel Lopez, and granddaughter Olivia. She will be dearly missed by her entire extended family as well.

Linda attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 W. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA , for many years, where there will be a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Linda’s memory to the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Hwy East., Lancaster, PA 17602.

Condolences to the Family

Dear Allison and Susan,  I was so saddened to read of Linda’s death.  We were friends in high school and after; we were in one another’s weddings – she in mine in 1966, and I in her wedding in 1967.  Our friendship never ended, although we did not see one another often after we became busy raising families and living farther apart.  But we kept in touch with occasional lunches or breakfasts, and ALWAYS a Christmas card, saying “this year we will get together”.  How sorry I am that we didn’t follow through.  Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you both, daughter and sister.  Sincerely, Kathy Bitzer Heckles

Our sympathy to the family , friends ,  and coworkers . I knew Linda all the years she worked at O’Hallorans .  I was a customer every day for lunch ,  and usually 2-3  dinners also. My first question of the server was  ” is Linda cooking “? I had many meals she cooked , and she was the best. Non busy times , she’d sit and we’d talk. And varied times I’d drop her off at her home.  I always remarked that she must be the healthiest , fit person in Lanc , as she was always walking. I remember Susie (O’Hallorans ) sponsored a walkathon  to raise $$ ,  for I think M. D .  Linda walked to either York , or Lanc to raise funds. Remarkable !  I had not seen her since she retired ,  but I know she certainly deserved a restful one.  As I said then , enjoy it and sit down … you’ve stood long enough,  daily , on those legs ! I also remember seeing her ,  and her sister a lot , at Friendlys , where my daughter worked. I think it was her weekly treat. Rest In Peace old friend , and many,  many thanks for all the great meals ,  and conversation .

I was so sorry to read of Linda’s passing in the newspaper. Linda and I were best friends through high school and college. I was a bridesmaid in Linda and Pete’s wedding.  Although we grew apart after college and went our separate ways with work and family, she will always remain in my heart as a dear and valued friend. I share in your sorrow at this difficult time. I can’t believe she is gone. I write this with sincere feelings and personal sorrow for your loss. I know she is in Heaven and we will meet again.

We were so sorry to hear of Linda’s passing. Though we know she has gone home to God; it is still difficult for the loved ones left behind. Linda and her family and friends are in our thoughts during this difficult time. The Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth are praying for all of you, now and always.

I miss you so much already!! I will celebrate your life as long as I have one. My memories of you that of joy, laughter and meaningful times. From our lengthy conversations, to watching movies and our weekend outings with Allison, Olivia and I. You had a such positive impact in our lives that I can’t help but feel cheated out of more time with you. I hope we made yours as joyous as you made ours. You are gone but will never forgotten Linda! In your words Hola and Adios…
