Lloyd V. Hassel, 97

Lloyd Vernon Hassel, age 97, of Lancaster passed away Monday, December 18, 2017 at the Mennonite Home on Harrisburg Pike. Lloyd was born in Strasburg, the son of Harry and Edith (Yuninger) Hassel. He graduated from F&M with a BS in Chemistry. He served in the US Navy during WWII before moving to Joplin, MO to work for Atlas Powder. Lloyd subsequently worked over 40 years at the Armstrong R&D Center and retired in 1982.
Lloyd was active in Toastmasters, Quest, Meals-on-Wheels, and the local Bird Club where he participated in numerous annual bird counts. His many volunteer activities included helping wheelchair patients at the Mennonite Home and reading at the Lancaster Blind Association.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Betty Jane Hassel (Miller), as well as three children Robert (Smyrna, DE), Barbara (Columbia), and Richard (Lancaster); 4 grandchildren; and 3 greatgrandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster on January 5, 2018 at 9:30 AM. A private interment will be at Longeneckers Church on Strasburg Pike. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Hempfield Area Meals-on Wheels at 1085-B Manheim Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 or the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, 555 Gettysburg Pike, Suite A300, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.

my deepest condolences to the Hassel’s. it was a blessing knowing this family, your father was a brilliant man. I have learn so much from him. I pray that his soul finds a resting place in heaven. stay strong for your mom in this difficult time. you guys did a wonderful job as kids to your parents. from Rohanie. 😇
